Gents,
Holstein Pool is now open full-time. There is a parents & tots swim every M,W,&F from 9:00 am - 10:45 am. The baby pool is also open, although I'm not sure of the hours. Be forewarned: the baby pool does have a 25-person limit and often is full on hot weekdays and most weekends. For those that want to get away from the kids for some exercise, there is lap swimming for adults in the early morning and late evening. It is a 50-yard pool. Unless there was a major renovation this winter, don't expect much from the locker rooms!

The new Holstein Playground is supposed to open soon. I've driven by the site and it looks great. It has the soft rubber ground covering under the swing and play structures like Wicker Park. It also has a lot of shady trees and grass surrounding the play structure. Cliff or I will update this thread when it officially opens.

I jogged by Holstein Park today. The baby pool is NOT open yet and needs some repairs. The new playground will not be open until the end of June.

Amanda and I went there today. Although Jim is correct about the baby pool repairs, we had a blast in the main pool. The shallow end is about 3 ft deep. Tot swims there are MWF 9-10:45am. There is also a family swim on T&Th 9-10:45am.
Note: they don't allow any sort of flotation devices (tube rings, water wings, etc.) and also kick everyone out of the pool promptly at 10:45, so be forewarned.

I drove by the park last night. To my surprise, there were kids playing in the playground! The baby pool is also open. Maybe we could have a playgroup here in July or August.

Martin and I went to the pool this morning for the "tot family swim" time, and the beautiful new playground was indeed open and being used.
I think we should definitely get the dads over to Holstein Park for a playgroup meeting. You know, there are so many good parks to go to that we may have to start meeting three or four times a week in order to enjoy them all fully. After going to the beach next week, I'm hoping to schedule us over in the West Loop because we have 3 guys from that area who have been coming to our meetings lately.
As far as the Holstein Park swimming pool goes, tot family swim (MWF 9-10:45) is very lightly attended. There were never more than half a dozen families in the pool at once.
For those who prefer their water knee-deep, the kiddie wading pool is open every afternoon beginning at 1 PM.
Holstein is "J" on the cool map that Mark created.

This weekend Holstein Park's staff updated the swim schedule, and the kiddy pool is now open for more hours. It is scheduled to be open from 9 in the morning until 5:30 every evening. Jim's caveat about the 25-person limit still applies.
