Goodbye to Colin/Glowdark: His Top Ten Posts

Colin (glowdark) is moving from Chicago with his family this week. Please post any well-wishes below.

Although there are many reasons we'll miss Colin, I'm not quite sure what we'll do without his entertaining posts. Maybe we'll see his standup routine on Conan someday. Thus, I present to you, Colin's greatest hits:

10.) I would love to cook for my wife, but I have two left feet in the kitchen. And yes, I cook with my feet.

9.) I went to Des Plaines a couple of weeks ago, and they had a McDonald's museum. Yes, the first McDonald's was in Des Plaines, and NO we don't need a museum. If I wanted to visit a McDonald's museum I would go to the graveyard and imagine how many people died from feasting on one too many big macs.

8.) Could I have the finger and toe nuggets with honey mustard?

7.) There is not an emoticon to describe how I'm feeling right now.

6.) It sounds like the superintendent is either a republican or a nazi.

5.) ...and what is the deal with nut allergies these days. Since when did nuts become such an epidemic? Are people with nut allergies breeding more frequently or something?

4.) They should have peanut detectors at the entrances of schools.

3.) I always picture children's museums as being kind of like the Field Museum, except instead of preserved animals there are little stuffed children with plaques describing their behavior and eating habits.

2.) I was just practicing my comedy. People really shouldn't take me seriously. But since you did...

1.) Everyone needs a good laugh.

Hey Colin, congratulations/sad to see you go! Hopefully the move is all for the best. I'm assuming you'll visit back to chicagodads.com regularly so we can hear of your exploits in your new hometown. If you get bored, you can always start a WorldCup fantasy league or something...

Anyway, Amanda will surely miss Sasha Belle. Maybe someday she'll get to meet her namesake in person!

Stay cool,
Mark

Re: Goodbye to Colin/Glowdark: His Top Ten Posts

This is from the same post as the McDonald's museum and children's museum quotes that Jim liked. It's something I will always treasure. Especially in the middle of winter.

What is the deal with the nature museum? Isn't this just a horrible idea that we have to make a museum dedicated to nature? GO OUTSIDE! I mean, I know it's a city, but it depresses me to no end that this city has so much concrete and metal that a museum for NATURE is nescessary. Good lord! And most of the exhibits in the museum are made of plastic and fiberglass. There is literally a fake snake in a terrarium next to a terrarium with a real snake. "We wanted to bring you nature, but we couldn't find any. We hope you will settle for this artificial tree made of plaster, chicken wire, and latex paint."

Re: Goodbye to Colin/Glowdark: His Top Ten Posts

I just wanted to leave you with a picture of a Chicago principal recruiting a future disciple.

Seriously, I'm so embarassed by my own rants sometimes.

Meeting the Dads here has been a weekly anchor for me. I don't have any family nearby, and I never had any younger siblings. Isolation was immediately a huge problem for me, but once I went to my first playgroup I felt much better about my situation.

Cliff, Josh, Mark, Peter, Jim, Allyn, Seth...these were the guys who have been in it for the last year with me. Thanks guys. I hope I didn't leave any old-schoolers out. I identified with Seth early on, and he became like an older brother to me. He was very patient with me as he tried to explain computers or politics.

I hope the new guys stick with the playgroups, and I hope that everyone meets up more. That is the one thing that I regret is that few of us were very social outside of the scheduled events.

Some DNO shout outs to Noonan and Brian who came from the suburbs to say "goodbye" to me, and to Doug who came to the show. Also to Jim, who bought me a beer and Josh who took me to my first pro hockey game.

Thanks for all your kind remarks. I will be checking in, and I'll come back and visit.

Colin, sad to see you go brotha. I can't believe you are leaving all of this, for Kentucky. Please make sure that Sasha Belle doesn't end up marrying any of her cousins.

Well, I'll actually be right over the border from KY. So I get all the benefits of such a great state, but I'll never have to worry about my family living on food stamps in a trailer with an old rusted washing machine on our front yard.

The group certainly won't be the same without you, Colin. I'm sorry that I couldn't give you a proper send-off. I hope you're settling in, and we'll talk soon.

Seth
