Chicago City Playgroup locations for August -- feedback requested

Hi,

I volunteered to do the locations for August for our group, and, as long as the weather is good, here are the places that I imagine going for the next 3 weeks:

August 3 -- Holstein Park in Bucktown

August 10 -- Berger Park on the lakefront just south of Loyola

August 17 -- Adams Playground in Lincoln Park (the waterplay area is scheduled to open early at 10 AM that day)

If the weather turns bad on one of those days, we can move things around.

Are these places okay? Are there particular places you would like to meet for August 24 and August 31?

Would people in this group consider going to Tallmadge Park or some other place up in Evanston? Is that too much of a trip?

Do you guys want to try to go to the beach in August? There's a little bit of unofficial beach at Berger Park, but do you want to go to an officially sanctioned beach again?

Mark, you mentioned trying to go someplace further south, like somewhere in Hyde Park. Did you find someplace you like?

Ross, you mentioned several places a few weeks ago that you said are nice, including a place east of Millennium Park. Is that a place you'd like us to congregate or do you have another idea for a good place?

Peter, do you want us to come over to Supera Playlot or Wrightwood Park?

Let me know if you have feelings about this one way or another.

Cliff

Re: Chicago City Playgroup locations for August -- feedback requ

Cliff, thanks for asking. I'm hesitant to suggest anything because lately we've been notoriously unreliable for attending. Having said that, Chase Park is a new place we haven't been yet. Assuming it cools down later in August, Ping Tom park might be another good choice to revisit. Some of new dads haven't yet been exposed to the Chinatown chow down when we go there.

I'd be willing to split the September organizing duties with someone else.

By the way, I've never seen a park (Supera) with it's own website! Nifty catch...probably some good info there about how to get your neighborhood park upgraded.

Cliff,

Thanks for all of your work planning this stuff.

Since you asked... If the playgroup migrates too far north, Hollis and I may not be able to make the trip. And we prefer pools over beaches.

But please don't feel the need to plan around Hollis and me.

Since you asked,

Seth

Cliff,

These locations sound great to me. I prefer pools over beaches as well, although I'd like to hit the beach one more time. It is fun once you actually get there. Getting all of the sand out of the beach bag, the car, the stroller, the child, and me is not as much fun.

I'm always up for a new park as well. Due to the new arrival, I can't do much planning for a while. :-(

All these places are fine with me. The beach would be great again although the clean up is much worse than a trip to the pool. For what it's worth, I noticed the other day when Ana & I went to the park at Wrightwood & Greenview that there is a small pool there but I'm not sure of the family / tot times. I'll be on vacation the last week of August and the first few weeks of September but would like to volunteer to help with October planning.

Chicago City Playgroup locations for Sept.

Thought I would get a jump on September playgroup planning. Here's the short list under consideration, in no particular order:

- Ping Tom (Chinatown)
- that private playground just east and north of Millenium Park (the one surrounded by all the condo towers)
- Chase Park (Wilson/Ashland)
- Sheil Park (Addison/Southport)
- Juniper Park (Greenview/Waveland)

Rain locations:
- new Wicker Park library
- Goose Island brewery(!)...I hear they have a back area for families

Any other suggestions welcomed.

Re: Chicago City Playgroup locations for Sept.

Cliff,

If our playgroup is more than 30 minutes away then we probably won't make it.

Charlotte's largely just on the one nap now (at 11.30am) so I'd really hate to interfere too much with that. If I was pressed for a preference I'd obviously suggest things a little closer to home but again, don't let that sway your planning.

Peter and Charlotte.

Re: Chicago City Playgroup locations for Sept.

Mark,

Any of these locations would be good for me and Martin. I love Ping Tom Park and its proximity to wonderful, inexpensive food, and I love the chance to see other places that we haven't been.
