twitter friend @relucthousedad recently had this post on his blog about feeling like he is receding.

I thought it was an honest look at his feelings and I am posting it here for

1. in your at-home dad journey have you ever felt this way, and

2. You could go over to his blog and offer some encouragement as someone who has been there.

Dad Shouldn't Sell Himself Short

I feel most dads don't know how to measure their success as dads beyond a paycheck.  In part because, men have been taught to measure success as a provider not a nurturer.

Even as an at-home dad during my early years it was tough to see the value of the time I spent with the kids.  Much of which was changing their diapers, cleaning up barf, poop and urine....  There is also no instant gratification in being the primary caregiver.  Success with kids come over time.

This dad has accomplished more than he knows and/or can recognize.  I think he should take sometime to reflect on where he was and where he is now.  Where his kid was and is now.  And what this kid's life may have been like without dad being there for him.

I also think the fact that the kid is still breathing and alive should be viewed as quite an achievement. Cool

The kid couldn't have gotten this far without dad.  And will need him even more in the coming days, weeks, months, years...
I think every once in a while it's okay to pat yourself on the back because you don't get many pats from other people.
I'll also post this on his blog.
