Napping- Most Awesome if You Get the Time, or a Waste?

Naps are the most awe-inspiring things I have come across sine being an at home dad!
Morning, noon or cocktail hour it just does not matter if I allowed napping by my son. 15 minutes of shuteye can give you a completely new Toddler Tolerance Level.TTL, another thread possibility?
Before my little man became such an outdoor toddler kind of guy, I could usually sneak shuteye as the Boohbahs were farting their way across the screen, only to be woken up by a “dad wake up!” when it was over. But no more as I now get to read while escaping the PM sun on our east facing driveway/garage as my son scotters, rollerblades or Hotwheels Be Fast (his name for playing cars) while waiting for his friends to get home.
Anybody else take big boy, dad naps?

Every Freakin' Day!

I could not get through the day anymore without taking at least one nap while my son is napping or he is watching Sesame Street. I can't believe I went over 20 years of my life without ever taking a nap during the day. It is definitely the most refreshing and rejuvenating thing that one can do during the day...sure beats caffeine, sugar, and exercise! Consider me part of the cause to fight for naps for all full-time working individuals in this country!

mommy, I'm sleepy...

I am truly lucky that my daughter still takes afternoon naps (approx. 2 to 2.5 hrs) every day. On those days I don't have work in the shop (or dishes in the sink) to do, you can find me in a prone position in bed with an open book over my eyes. (that's so DFACS can't claim I'm sleeping on the job). I used to think naps were for toddlers and the gereatric set, but I'm slowly spoiling myself. Viva la siesta!!!!!

I don't know guys. A 2 or 3

I don't know guys. A 2 or 3 hour nap on the weekend when the wife is around is one thing. During the week, short naps make me feel groggy, cranky and less patient with the little ones.

Who said anything about short naps?

During the week, I take the same 2-2.5 hour nap that my little guy does. Until he doesn't require naps anymore (which is a good 2-3 years down the road), I expect to keep up with my nap schedule also. Since I am generally a night owl, this works great for my overall schedule, and it keeps my patience level on an even keel during the day.

Most awesome...and critically important

I've always been a big fan of naps...partly because I have the "night owl" gene too. Naps are essential for me, even with two school-age kids who are gone from 8:30-3:30. Days are still very busy with grocery shopping, cooking, laundry, gym, errands, house projects, etc, so the only really "quiet" time I have is late in the evening...so naps remain critical for me. Not everyday, but once or twice a week seems to do it...1-2 hours. I know categorically that I am a better (read: patient) parent when I am better rested...and to stay rested I need to nap periodically.

My current favorite response to people asking me "what will you do now with both kids in school?" (a question I despise, but that's another thread...) is "I'm gonna take a lot of naps...I've got nearly 8 years of sleep deprivation to make up for!"

Naps, a good thing

It's good to see I am not the only one who does the occasional nap, I too enjoy the freedom of late nite to get some dad things done.
I am about there getting the wife zeroed in on me not being around for the convention and just might get to book tickets and a room soon. -Andy, is there a scheduled 2 to 3 PM downtime for naps?

That's why God invented Cailiou

As much as I can't stand that whiney ass cartoon, my son loves it. And it allows me the 30 minutes or so I need here and there during the day. His full on 2 hour afternoon naps aren't consistant, so I fall back on the little cartoon twerp when I have to. But if my boy goes down for the full 2 hours? You can bet I'm out for at least 30 minutes or so of it. I missed my nap today watching the Giants beat the cubs and now my boy is going to be waking up about the time I ready to collapse.

....sure beats exercise???

I think that you are setting yourself up for a depressing way of life. Now, I understand that a nap on occasion can be a great and wonderful thing, but saying that it is better than exercise is just about the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I hope that you would never say that to your child. Caffeine, sugar I can completely agree with, those are horrible nasty drugs that everybody should stay away from.

Like I have Said Here Before...

Keeping yourself heart healthy is most important, something I do daily at some point in the day/night. My workout schedule can be 6 to 18 hours between sessions, whatever works, works for me. That Tony Little dweeb or that Jihad (or whatever he calls himself) guy in Hawaii on Fitness TV would have a hey day with that!
Then its all right to do a PM nap, you've earned it!

To kiyoshiarata

The comment was meant in jest ... I exercise regularly. Take a chill pill.

By the way, sugar as nature intended is not a drug. However, refined sugar can definitely be considered a drug, since it is devoid of any nutritional value whatsoever.

Nap is my favorite game!

I can't wait to play nap with my son. He's usually not too keen on the idea at the begining but he does give it the old college try. As for myself, I leave the bedroom door open so I can hear him get up and he loves to "wake dad up" when he sees me in the bed.
