Finally, a subject I can expound on...

After checking in on Rebeldad.com today and watching CBS' "attempt" to report on AHD, I just have to blast off a bit. Firstly if you haven't checked it out, do so before you read what I have to say.

Here's a direct link:

Ok, let's get to the meat of the issue. After watching this "fluff", my knee jerk reaction was pure disbelief and disappointment. After two years in this "biz" my attachment to being an AHD is purely on the side of my daughter and not what "cool, hip look" I could muster out of this experience. My choice in a diaper bag says "I'm a cool Dad?", plueaasee!! (for the record, my Olivia bag is an old, beat up Gap backpack). Every one of my sensibilities was offended by this type of portrayal of "today's dad". I'm sick and tired of AHD being a novelty in today's society and I challenge us as a group to step up our efforts to be portrayed in a better light. Now I'm not suggesting that we storm the Capital (wearing our best fashionable accessories) or stage a protest, but we as a group can certainly control how we are perceived by the media and our fellow AHD. Sorry if I come across as bitter, but remember that I live in the deep south and my obstacles are a bit harder to overcome. I want for all of us AHD just to be treated fairly and without prejudice. Who really cares about looking cool? Not this AHD. Vent Over.

Footnote-

I am happy for the entepreneurs that were shown in the report, they show their personal desire to make the transition to fatherhood a profitable one. With running a successful business, I wonder how much ACTUAL time is spent doing what we do....hmmmm........

Actually not too bad

Actually not too bad, if they would have left off the unnecessary Mr. Mom clip.
When Gavin was an infant I used a black Eddie Bauer diaper bag since I didn't want a flowery one but once they become toddlers nothing beats a backpack!

I could see how people who are interested in style and brands and other things would be interested in "stylish designer bags" Probably the same people that spend $900 on a glorified umbrella stroller.

Barf. Those morning shows

Barf. Those morning shows are just so pandering and cheezeball corny that I don't see how anyone can take them seriously.

I don't need a hip urban diaper bag, but I do like having one that isn't girlie. The kind I use is below, and I really like it. Mostly because it isn't huge, and it doesn't look like it belongs attached to a Mom.

You Gotta Be Kidding...

This news clip makes it sound like to be a hip and cool (their wording) dad you gotta have these bags. I do not want to bash my fellow coworkers to bad but you would think they would at least be members here and spout their product in the signature line. Maybe they are being covert... c'mon now; if you are here, fess up!
Well, this hip and cool dad does not have a designer dad bag and was even cooler with dried spit-up running down the back of my shirt with spit out veggies lightly splattered across my right front shoulder while doing the grocery gig. You know the stuff the moms could relate to while in the checkout line at the store. And you thought the checkout line was a place for cash registers, when in reality it is the pay station with a line where you checkout other people! Hence the name...
I wonder if these guys in real life have a daily sitter or attend daycare part of the day because there was a point in time where the only inventory I could manage was the disposable diapers and Onesies. Again, what is with the name, Kiddies Coverall is better I think.
