The 16th Annual At-Home Dads Convention is coming up (Oct. 8 in DC if you didn't know) and I was wondering what made you decide to attend this year? Meet new friends, learn what our wives really think about us, get more tips on discipling your 3-year old? What is pulling you to take a weekend of from the fam and come hang out with the greatest fathers in the world?

Opportunity is Knocking

There is always somekind of learning opportunity through other dads or the breakout sessions. I have been an at-home dad for nearly 11 years and everyday, every different stage of my childrens life is new to me. I need the interaction talking with other dads about what they are doing or not doing to be the best dad they can be, not to mention what they are doing for their marriage relationship.

I go to the convention because I feel I need to. Last year I came back from the convention in Omaha with more knowledge and more energy because of it. My wife even noticed there was a difference when I came back. I look forward to that again this year!

Time For Me

I'm not too proud to say it!  I work hard benefiting others through our school and other extra curricular activities.   Plus it's in a place I never been to before.  These "business trips" no matter how short are the only time I can set the schedule for me.  It’s the only legit opportunity that will fly in my humble abode because the wife feels pretty good (safe) about letting me go and talk about groovy poop stains with others who are fascinated about the same subject.  Take it for what it is, the beer is cold, the company is unique and the times are good plus I hear Monica Lewinski is retired.

LOL @ Mike's Post

Seriously, I also attend for "QUALITY me" time.  Great dads and information to help you be a better husband and dad.  And this gives my wife a few days to feel what it's really like to be an at-home parent and quality alone time to bond with the boys.
