Hello Conference attendees,

The D.C. Convention Committee is finalizing plans for the activities for Friday during the day and we would like to get your feedback. We have a few suggestions listed below but would like to get your input for additional ideas before we lock into final plans. Here are a few options that were previously mention:

(1) Bike ride across the city to the many monuments with a break for lunch

(2) Walking tour of the Smithsonian Museums

(3) Car ride trip to Mt Vernon for the day

(4) Car ride to visit historic battle fields

(5) Relaxing with a late morning metro ride and then walk to Georgetown and have a lunch by the waterfront.

See the enclosed URL for addtional infromation on the "free" things to do in the city

http://washington.org/visiting/browse-dc/attractions/100-free-things-to-do

Please let us know your thoughts. We look forward to seeing you all soon!

Best Regards,

Kevin Folk

Civil War Battlefield

Personally, I'd like to go to a Civil War battlefield. I am a re-enactor and have been to many of the battlefields near DC so I can be an unofficial tour guide for whoever wants to go... we'd just need somebody with a car to cart us around.

Will He Go Round in Circles

The bike ride sounds kinda, no, very cool, is there bike rental information?

I also got approved reservations to visit and tour the U.S. Capitol.  I am still waiting on if I can get into the White House.
I would bag the capitol tour for a bike ride but if I can get in to see the White House, I think I gotta do that.

The Smithsonian ranks up there as well.

Air & Space Museum

The Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum at Dulles airport is just fantastic.  If enough guys are interested we may be able to get a personal guided tour.

Yes to Smithsonian, No Civil War Battlefield

I vote Smithsonian (where Al can also see artifacts from and exhibits about the Civil War).  Al, you want to see the battlefields by car?!  Come on, what kind of re-enactor are you?  Get a horse!

Bike would be fun

You're right Ariel, but I should probably walk since I'm an infantryman and we despise the cavalry!

I will say, touring the monuments on a bike sounds fun. Heck, I don't think I'd say no to any of the options to be honest. I've only been to DC twice and none of the history there ever gets old to me.

Lincoln Momorial on the National Mall

I didn't get to see this when I was in DC earlier this year but the Lincoln Momorial might be a good tour. There is some info here:

Al, there's a beer (or other beverage) with your name on it if you ever visit Gettysburg!  See you at the convention.

Spy Museum

I have heard nothing but great things about the International Spy Museum in DC.  Might be a cool idea for some.

You've got a deal

You've got a deal, Matt! Been to Gettysburg once and LOVED IT! Second favorite site behind Antietem. I hope to be there for the 150th re-enactment in 2013. Look forward to meeting you in about 5 weeks!

I loved the Smithsonians as

I loved the Smithsonians as a kid, and would be happy to go there again.  I'd be open to the spy museum or the Air and Space museum that Mike mentioned.

All Things Biking

Never having been to DC before, I found http://bikewashington.org/ informative. Not much going into DC proper that everyone wants to see but still good rides.

Recommended for visitors is the Mount Vernon Trail, weather permitting.  Getting some fitness in before all the food and beer is crucial and we as a group need to keep the girth expansion down so we can always be there for our kids.

Just sayin'...
