Hello Fellow At-Home Dads,

Not sure if you have noticed but we have been getting a lot of SPAM posts that really have nothing to do with topics that they are being discussed associated with links that have gone to car insurance sites and others. We've been trying to keep up by deleting the new accounts as they are posting the SPAM but they still continue.

In an effort to help control SPAM better, tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday September 14th) we will be setting permissions for any new account created, this permission will require that the new accounts be screened and given permission to use the site by the site administrators.

This will not affect current accounts, only newer accounts attempted after this rule is set.

Thanks,

Bob Boisvert

Permissions set

the new permission has been set. Visitors can create accounts but administrator approval is required. Hopefully this will help.

Probably the first...

I may very well be the first to sign up with this new procedure in place.  Works for me.

I think this is an excellent idea.

You might want to check new usernames, emails, and IP addresses against the StopForumSpam.com database before approving members.  It may be possible to have a script programmed for you that hooks into the registration that will automatically do this for you.  I know this has helped a site I adminstrate greatly, however, some still get through and have to be manually taken care of.  It takes a lot of dilligence to keep the spammers out.  Glad you're taking initiative.

Thanks Daniel

We will be doing quite a bit in the coming year hopefully completed before the next convention. One of the list items is to upgrade this current site to its latest version which will be quite an undertaking in itself. We are always looking for volunteers to help with our website tasks. If you feel you're qualified you can send me a message privately with your experience and I can pass it on to out team members for review.

Thanks for your input, I knew about stopforumspam.com but haven't used it yet as we are doing some maintenance right now on the database.
