New feature: Anonymous Questions and Answers

Too shy to participate in the discussion forums? Have an issue that you'd like to discuss but don't want to put your name on it? Here's a chance to get some advice anyway. Post your questions in the new Anonymous Q&A section.

Anyone can post an answer. Wise dads...please visit and share your knowledge to help out a fellow dad. (The questions are anonymous, responses are not).

How does it work?

How do we post questions vs. comments?

Posting questions and comments

To post a question, you must be logged out. Log out. Then, go to the Q&A section by clicking on the "q&a" link at the top of the page. Or, click here: http://www.athomedad.org/view/qa

On that page, click on the link that says "Click here to ask an anonymous question." The questions won't appear immediately (the reason for this is because they get reviewed before being posted so that we don't get a bunch of spam)

To see the questions, go to the Q&A section (http://www.athomedad.org/view/qa). The questions (once we have some) will be listed there. To read the question and answers, click on the question. To post a comment/answer, you'll need to be logged in (comments are not anonymous). Then, just fill in the "post new comment" form at the bottom of the question.

It works similarly to the other parts of the site. The differences are that only anonymous (logged out) visitors can post, and the posts get reviewed before being published.

Any other questions, let me know.

It Seems To Me...

That you should need to join to post content and ask questions.
Maybe a FAQ page would be good and help out the occasional too shy person, but if an At Home Dad wants to get support they should join. We are not mean people and the only dumb question is the one not asked. At Home Dads are a small community and if somebody is here in need of help they should join so we know whom we are talking to, when I reply to a new user's post I click their name to learn more, if they provide it. It is a good idea to know there locale and number of kids. And if they don't provide info I just don't lend comment.
What it comes down to is you’re asking guys to take extra steps to post a reply and then log back in, and people will forget to log back in to reply to other postings and that's a turn off.
Maybe Mike has gotten email on this that somebody has expressed an interest, but I know I will not log out to lend support to anonymoususer then log in again.
Having to login to post would cut down on Mike's work load on the service he is providing, not that there would be a ton of anonymous users posting questions! But still...

You're misunderstanding

You do not need to log out or do anything unusual to offer a reply - actually, you need to be logged IN...just like everywhere else on the site. It's exactly like replying to any other forum post, or posting a comment here as you just did. Just fill in the "post new comment" form and you're done.

The only time you need to be logged out is if you want to post an anonymous question. Logging out keeps it anonymous...see?

I'm sorry if my explanations have caused people to overthink this. It's really very simple: (1) log out if you want to ask a question, (2) comments/answers work the same as everywhere else on the site...be logged in and post your reply.

There's been no particular request for any of this. It's my idea. My hope is that it will promote some interesting discussion that otherwise might not take place. We'll see. Consider it an experiment. If it sucks, we'll dump it.

Maybe I Better

Fantastic Idea

I think this is a great feature, and I don't think the point is to avoid being part of the community. I can't see myself using it any time soon -- but I wouldn't be surprised if it does get used.

Good job Mike.

The first question

Well, the first question has been posted. Go comment :-)
