My daughter is having constipation issues. She's only going to the bathroom every three days, and the stool that comes out is as large as an adult stool, and hard. For the past week, she's only gone after waking up at night, struggling to go, and I've had to "help her" by getting her to bend her knees like she's about to give birth and coaxing her to push. Last night was the final straw...after doing this once again, she laid there, sweating and crying and clapping her hands saying "Good girl!" (because I'd been saying "Good girl" when she pushed). It was one of the saddest things I'd ever seen.
We've tried adding fiber to her diet, a spoonful of mineral oil, prune juice, dried prunes, changing from whole milk to soy milk, and my wife even bought this fiber-filled gummy bears for her, but nothing has worked so far. Has anyone else been through this? Our doctor just told us to give her more prune juice...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. It kills me to see her in pain like that, and I'm afraid the more painful bowel movements she has, the less inclined she'll be to go to the bathroom, and it'll just keep getting worse and worse.
Help?
