Now I get to test my theory...

Which one of you computer geeks can help me setting up my new ipod touch?? I successfully ran a test sync and downloaded approx 500 files from my itunes into the new ipod (out of a possible 4,000). Now I want to download more music, podcasts, & my yacht rock videos. When I connect to itunes and begin the sync, a warning message pops up that says either " your device is not connected" OR "the required disk is not found" and stops the downloads and I can't seem to conquer this roadblock. I did all of my system tests on the computer as it applies to my USB ports, etc. I tried restoring the ipod, restarting the computer, and the apple website is pretty vague about "warning messages" (go figure) Can anybody help this technically deficient dummy so I can be cool again? (last ditch effort here, I may just take it back if it is defective) I got this thing for my birthday (today) and I already want to throw it against the wall...

I never had this problem with with previous ipod / itunes which is why this is so frustrating. Help me Obi-wan Kenobi, you're my only hope...

iPods and Wind'ohs have never played nice

It's remarkable that Apple had the foresight enough to sell the iPod for Windows, but they never have fully integrated it. Some people have tons of problems (I've had the same as you) and some never see anything. Nothing is wrong with your iPod by the way. This worked for me, hopefully will for you too.

sort of...

Damn PC, After getting all the "newest" updates from Apple and itunes, I still have the same problem. Although I seem to be able to sync in short bursts instead of one continuous effort. I had to keep unplugging and plugging in the ipod for this to work. Hopefully, I'll fill it up eventually to where I can manage with short periods of sync-ing. Unfortunately, I can't get all of my Family Guy "Blue Harvest" on it. Maybe someday. Also, the album artwork is sort of discombulated and is labeling the albums differently that what they actually are. very strange.

I figured as much

I had the same issues. The .dll hack helped, but didn't solve the problem. Just keep going, once you get your iPod filled all the way up (I know it's infuriating), you shouldn't have that problem anymore. You think it's hard now? I'm running Linux (Xandros on one, Fedora on another) on two different computers in the house. Try getting the iPod to play nice with those.

Racist iPod

My trouble is that my iPod is racist. I have a whole bunch of Mexican Rock on mine and they all skip. It doesn't do it to any non-Spanish songs, Except for Calixico, that is fronted by a white guy. It doesn't matter if they came off CDs, pirated, or from iTunes.

I tried resettting it, but it didn't help.

Skip?

Skip as in the song skips like a bad spot on a record, or skips as in, it skips over the track without playing it?

Skip

The iPod plays a portion of the song and then skips to the next one.

Wow

That's one I've never heard of before. Can't find anyway to fix it either. Apple suggests resetting your iPod to factory settings. Downside of that is you lose everything on your iPod and will have to sync it all from scratch. If you go that route, make sure all your data on the iPod is backed up somewhere.

iPod reset

Do you know if there is a more complete reset than the software reset from iTunes?

Sorry

The only way I know how to do it is via iTunes.

Worked for me

Years ago, on my Mac, one old-time fix was to disconnect and reconnect various peripherals and find out if there was a conflict between my new gadget and one of the old ones. Interestingly, on my newer eMac with all the bells and whistles and the latest software, I found this to be a solution to my problem. I recently got a Switch Box to add on computers to the one internet line. It works fine but doesn't allow me to see my printer, scanner, camera, etc. on the Mac.

I found that if I just unplug the Switch Box while I turn on my computer in the morning, and then plug it in after everything is booted, all is well. Not a high-tech fix, but it gets the job done for me.

I don't know if this is something that works on PCs, but it might be worth a shot.
