So....Does this group still exist? Or is it a remnant of a past idea? I am not a real SAHD, but a very involved father of two daughters. I am a full-time graduate student at BU which means flexible hours, thus my life ends up looking similar to a stay at home parent.
Anyway, I live in Somerville and don't have a car. But if anyone is getting together for coffee in the area, I'd love to join in.
-Matt
What's the scoop?
Matt:
I listed the Boston-Area Dads with the hope that if I
built it, they would come, so to speak. The other
guys listed under the group really aren't active on
the site, and the only one I'm in touch with is Ray
(whose screen name is derek_smalls).
I've posted messages in a few other places looking to
recruit dads to get together with their kids once in a
while, but nothing's come of that yet.
But Ray and I would definitely like to meet you,
either with kids (during the week) or without (on the
weekend). We both live in Newton, but have cars and
know Somerville pretty well (Ray went to Tufts and I
lived near Somerville Hospital several years ago).
Let me know what your schedule is and let's see what
we can work out.
Dave

Sorry about the delayed response...
It's been pretty busy around here lately. Anyway, I would love to meet you and Ray (and any other area sahds) sometime. Wed., Thurs, and Fridays are the best for me. I'm not far from Tufts. So we could meet at my place or somewhere in the area. Or somewhere reachable by public transportation. Let me know what you think.
Matt
This week?
Matt:
Ray can't work it out right now, but I'd like to meet with you, either tomorrow or Friday, if possible. I'll gladly come to Somerville, if you've got a place in mind we can hang out with the kids (I assume you'll have your kids; I'll have my 8-month-old daughter with me) and grab a bite to eat or something to drink. Let me know.
Dave

did you get my email?
Dave,
I tried responding directly to you via email. I'm not sure if it worked, since you haven't responded. Friday in Davis Square (perhaps Mr. Crepe's ?) would be best--perhaps around 4 or 5 p.m. I'm not sure what your schedule is, but that's what works for me. Email me and we can arrange details if you like, or postpone if need be.

Another time
Matt:
I didn't get your direct email. Not sure why.
As for today, 4 o'clock doesn't work for me. Right in the middle of the baby's nap time. And my son will be home from school, and possibly hosting a play date.
Mornings and early afternoons are best for me. If that doesn't fit your schedule, maybe you, Ray and I could grab a beer some time on a weekend, just to get to know each other.
Let me know,
Dave

Dave, Early afternoons
Dave,
Early afternoons aren't good because that's when my daughter naps. But a morning might work well. Between 9 and 11 is usually best. Wednesdays and Thursdays are almost always open.
-Matt
Matt: A Thursday morning
Matt:
A Thursday morning would work for me, but not this week. My son has early release from kindergarten that day. But other Thursdays would work because I don't have to pick him up until 3:00. Maybe next Thursday, the 27th?

Hey. My name is Ben and I
Hey. My name is Ben and I have a 15 month old daughter named Madeline. We are looking for a dad's group. If you guys are still doing anything let us know. Mornings around 9:30 to Eleven are good as are afternoons from 2:30 till 6ish. I would love to do something at a playground or something like that . . .

Good luck,

Thanks very much for the tip.

Boston
Ben:
I have to admit I haven't done a lot to foster play dates within this group. People here are a bit far-flung, and while we all promise to travel, it's hard to do. But I'm committed to making a better effort.
I believe you said you're in Everett, right? I live in Newton, as does my buddy Ray. I've got a 13-month-old girl, he's got a two-year-old girl. I drop my son at camp at 9:00, but could be in Boston by 9:30 or so. Maybe we could meet at the playground on the Boston Common. M-W-F work best, as I don't have to pick my son up until 4:00.
Let me know. Maybe even this Friday.

Well,
Well, unfortunately-considering your trouble getting things together-we are going to Maine for a week on Friday. However, I am definitely committed to getting Madeline out of the house and playingt with other kids. Also, I would really like to be able to do this with other SAHDS, at least occasionally.
So . . . I will post back here a week from sunday morning and I will be doing so in the hope that we can make a hang out session happen.
"We don't need a license for this or anything?"
We'll work something out
Have a great time in Maine. We'll work something out. And anybody else reading this, feel free to chime in. I'm pledging to get this group active!

Hi. Back from vacation.
Hi. Back from vacation. Rainy but relaxing. I am thinking something on wednesday?
"We don't need a license for this or anything?"
weather permitting
Ben:
Good to hear you had a relaxing vacation in Maine. The rain sucks, but that's the reality in N.E. this summer.
Wed. looks good for me and my daughter. Have you ever been to the Boston Common playground? It's a really good one, and they even have a small in-ground sprinkler thing if it's hot. If that doesn't work for you, I'm open to suggestions.

That sounds good. Sometime
That sounds good. Sometime in the afternoon? Not sure exactly where the playground is . . .
"We don't need a license for this or anything?"
depends on naps
Ben:
9:30 is the best time for us, as my daughter usually naps around 11 or 11:30. But if 2:00 or so works for you, we could do that. She usually naps about 90 minutes, so we could eat lunch and hit Boston by around 2:00. Let me know what works for you. I need to be back in Newton at 4:00 to pick my son up from camp.

The forecast seems pretty
The forecast seems pretty good for tomorrow, so let's do it. I'll be at the Boston Common playground by 9:45. I'm just shy of 6 feet tall, have a goatee and will be wearing green Skecher sneakers. And I'll be chasing a one-year-old girl around.
I just looked up info about the playground -- it's called the Tadpole Playground and is next to the Frog Pond (http://boston.about.com/od/walkingtours/ss/bcWalkingTour_6.htm)
See you then,

country retreat...
hi guys
My name is Matt, and I just joined At home Dads.. My partner and I have a 9 mo. old Son, Will.
We used to live in JP but moved out to Stow, Mass just over 3 months ago and I am ready to commit myself. I don't think I'm going to like the country after living in the city for so long.
If anyone wants to take their kids out to Stow, just let me know. The fall is a nice time as their are hundreds of apple orchards out here.
I'd gladly come into the city too to meet other dads and their kids.
I look forward to chatting with you guys and hopefully having future playdates with our kids.
thanks,
Matt
hey matt
Hey Matt:
Welcome to the site, and to the Boston Dads Group. There hasn't been a lot of activity with our group, but things have been picking up a bit lately. I for one would love to make the drive to Stow for apple picking or something like that.
And if you're willing to make the trip to or near Boston, that would be great too.
I've got a 14-month-old girl and a six-year-old boy. My son will be back in school as of Thursday Sept. 4th, which will make it easier for me to do stuff with just my daughter.
We'll figure something out. Hope all is going well!

Hey Matt.
Welcome.
I have a 16 month old girl named Madeline and a boy on the way. I'd like to get something going for sure. I'd like to say I'm ambitious enough to head out there for some apple-y fun eventually, but how about meeting at a half way point sometime?
"We don't need a license for this or anything?"

Thanks for the welcome guys... You can see I don't log on all to often... you can always get my home email at matthew_tromba@yahoo.com.

triangulation
Not sure who besides Matt and Ben (wait, where have I heard those names before?) still reads this list. As I've said before, I'm trying a little harder to make things happen with anybody in this group who wants to do stuff.
We've talked about getting together in the country, to go apple picking or something like that. I tried to triangulate our locations via Google Maps (our locations being Ben in Everett, Matt in Stow and me in Newton, where my buddy Ray also lives) and thought that maybe Lexington/Concord might be a good area. You've got the Battle Road/Minuteman Nat'l. Park area, and I'm sure there are other things to do there.
Any weekday morning except Tuesday works for me.
What's anybody think about this?

triangulation
Hi Dave,
We usually can meet any day and any time, except on Thurs and Friday mornings. Will has recurring appts on those mornings.
I don't have a stroller for rough terrain, but I think the trails there are fairly smooth, albeit gravel.
Looking forward to meeting everyone...one of these days.
Matt
We'd be in to that, I
We'd be in to that, I think.
"We don't need a license for this or anything?"
how about Wednesday?
Does next Wednesday, the 24th, work? I found a playground in Lexington called Center Playground. It's on Park Drive. I don't know Lexington at all, and have no idea if this place is any good. The pic on the Lexington Park & Rec site made it look OK. It this seems like too much of a risk for our valuable time, we could just go to Minuteman Nat'l Park and stroll around. Getting out of the house is the important part, right? If Wednesday is good, any time after 9:00 works for us.
Dave, full-time child roadie for Owen and Amelia

can't do it
Not sure if anybody was planning on getting together tomorrow (Wed.) or not, but turns out I can't do it. I need to visit a tile store and order a vanity top for my bathroom, and that has to happen tomorrow. Plus, my baby girl is under the weather and not sleeping well at night, which means earlier than usual naps.
I can't do this Friday, but maybe next Monday or Wednesday?
Anybody interested?
