With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed last week.

Larry LaPrise, the man who wrote "The Hokey Pokey", died peacefully at the age of 93. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in. And then the trouble started.

Shut up.

You know it's funny.

oh my

That was beyond bad.

And working at a skating rink, do you have any idea how much I hate the hokey pokey?

*SIGH* It wasn't funny then...

...and it's even less funny now.

I have been getting that a few times a year for at least 5 years now.

And in case anyone is curious, he died in 1996.

I'll admit it . . .

At Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, VA, the band plays the Hokie Pokie after the third quarter of every Virginia Tech home football game (they are the Va Tech "Hokies" -- among other names -- for those who may not know). I had the good fortune of attending a game some eight or nine years ago -- a Thursday night game at that. Think many, many beers.

Anywho, the entire crowd (and I mean ENTIRE) began doing the Hokie Pokie in unison, over 60K strong. I literally started to cry . . . something about mass celebration and unity always gets to me.

If the opportunity ever arises to head to Blacksburg, go. It's a special little community and they know how to have a good time. Just remember to practice the hokie pokie before you go.

I agree with Dayv27

-I have a issue with the song Hokie Pokie.. Only because I have heard it more times than the average human should...
I too am a rink rat. Roller and ice.......
But with the timely passing of Mr Larry LaPrise, I can look back and fondly remember "putting my whole self in and putting my whole self out" A sad day has accrued. But just think God , Jesus and the Holy Spirit can"Shake it all about"
and that is what this post is all about..
