Apart from visit athomedad.org obsessively, I mean.

Sometimes I read. Paper things, rather than LCD things.
Sometimes I write. LCD and Paper things.
Sometimes I just enjoy sitting down.

In answering this question myself I've realized that most of my hobbies now involve my daughter, and her awakeness.

depends on time of day

In the morning, I shave and shower while my daughter naps. Later in the day I'm likely emailing with friends, reading paper or magazine or book, writing fiction, thinking of napping but not actually doing it.

It depends

Usually I get stuff done, other times I might goof off or I might even decide to take a nap too!

The latter usually depends on if it was "Dad's night out" the night before.

This

and that. Actually, they quit napping a year or so ago, so now I have to spend time with them. :-)

What I used to do was multi-task: Throw on a load of clothes, nap, toss dishes in the dishwasher, nap, throw a load in the dryer, nap.

I miss naps.

Hi philipandrew, When you

Hi philipandrew,
When you wake up with make-up on your face you know what the kids were doing as you napped. I fell a sleep on the job last week and got a wet willie from my 3 year old.

When my kids nap I try to relax some sit at the computer, play a video game, but now I have a home remodel project I am doing I find quiet things to do, and there is always house work. I wish my scroll say was not so loud I would do more wood working

I used to use my sons 1st

I used to use my sons 1st nap or TV/video game/internet time. Then for his 2nd nap, I'd shower and get ready for work. I'll just try to get something done....whether it's quiet time for myself, or cooking without his "help".

What is this "nap"?

I miss naps. Right now, the Boy and I usually go outside and do yardwork/play while 2yo girl naps. Don't know what we'll do when it gets cold out.
The Boy gave up his nap when he was 2.5. I hope the Girl keeps it up a while longer.

Study/Homework

I am earning my MBA, so I spend a lot of the time working on that. Reading, taking notes on PowerPoint presentations and/or writing papers usually occupies my time.

My wife asked me if I had signed up for the 401k yet. I told her I hadn't. She asked me why and I told her I couldn't run that far.

Mixed

During the morning nap I usually try to get in a quick shower and shave, then check my email/news/surf for a bit, other little things that need to get done. During the late afternoon nap, if it happens, I usually try to get some 'self' time in; relax in my big chair, read, quick nap if needed, eat a HOT meal without interruption. My wife works midnights, so a lot of my house chores, like vacuuming, have to wait until she leaves for work at 7:30pm.

Depends on the day

The 4 yo She-Child of Doom is in full day Pre-K now so she doesn't nap any more, except on weekends; the 2 yo Boy had to have his naps shuffled around to accommodate the She-Child's school schedule. He use to take a few hours in the am, and another few in the afternoon; now he takes one long nap while she's in school, but it still does not equal out to the amount of time of his two nap schedule.

That being said, it really depends on the day. Mondays is laundry. Our washer crapped the bed, so I drop off the clothes at our local laundromat before bring the She-Child to school and pick them up on the way back. Then spend the day drying. Wednesday is story hour day at the library for the boy. Thursday is grocery/errand day. Tuesdays, Fridays, and any free time are dictated by the weather.

Like Daniel, I have a remodelling project going. If it's nice outside, I can strip wood; if it's crappy, I'm painting or staining. Of course all that gets done after the general household stuff - cleaning, cooking, picking up toys, etc. I try to stay on top of a little bit everyday so there's not just one whole day shot doing it all.

I usually take lunch about 12-12:30 and chill on the computer for an hour or two, then finish up anything that needs it and go pick up the She-Child. That mystical shower and shaving stuff that everyone is speaking of though, usually happens (if I'm lucky) sometime before bed.

I'm working on my PhD so I'm

I'm working on my PhD so I'm usually reading when Miss V. is down. So far we're still at two naps but I hear it goes down to one nap?

Naps? What are those?

Except for the oldest (who is now 11), the other 2 stopped napping at 2. I would love to have some nap time in the afternoon so I could get some things done uninterrupted. Now, I go and workout at the YMCA so the youngest is in the kidzone and I get 2 hours to myself.

I Napped too!

I took a power nap and caught up on sleep that I didn't get the night before. I took care of the kids whenever they woke up at night so that Tina could sleep through the night and get ready for work the next day.

When lil Jacquleine naps...

I follow her noble example and nap as well. The problem is that 5-yr-old Jordan just started Kindergarten, and he's no longer in day care. He gave up daytime naps 3 years ago. Next summer will be his first to stay home all day every day...unless we can talk his grandparents in Arkansas to keep him for a week. So I'm getting those naps in while I can!
So why don't they call it mooching when the wife stays home?

If I had a wii

I'd play rockband or whatever that guitar game is. But I don't so I mainly catch up on news and email, cook lunch and pay the bills.

What are naps?

My daughter has never taken long naps, so it's rare to get that kind of break.  I'm either working or napping when she naps.  The catch-22 for me is that she always naps longer when I nap with her, but I don't get any work done.
