Seems like a conspiracy theory...Do the scientist care to weigh in? Debunkers? Are seaweed dildos really better?

ahh the dildo thread is back

grass, plastic or not they serve a purpose...getting off. I do not think an over abundance of discarded dildos is an issue with the landfills. If we want to get into a "Green" discussion we can go to so many other places.

sex quotes good or not:
"Sexual intercourse is kicking death in the ass while singing." Charles Bukowski
"The good thing about masturbation is that you don't have to get dressed up for it." Truman Capote
"We have reason to believe that man first walked upright to free his hands for masturbation." Lily Tomlin
"If God had intended us not to masturbate, He would have made our arms shorter. " George Carlin

phthalates

The issue of phthalates is important to discuss, despite the ridiculousness of the article. The plastic is found in many baby toys, shampoos, bottles, etc and there are more than enough articles in Mothering magazine alone to warrant a full-scale debunking.

The issue is that trace amounts of phthalates have been found in the urine of babies who use products that contain them. While this might seem horrific, it means absolutely nothing. Just because it is in your urine does not mean that it has harmed you.

Studies have also shown that labrats injected with high doses of phthalates have had adverse effects. Other studies have speculated that kids exposed to phthalates have hormone disruptions. There have also been hundreds of studies that show no link at all between phthalates and health problems. The issue has been studied extensively, but the high profile speculative claims get all the attention.

A blue-ribbon panel chaired by Dr. C. Everett Koop, former surgeon general, came to the conclusion that phthalates are safe. You can read about it here with a link to the actual study at the bottom of the page.

He's at Home

I see…it isn’t the Dioxin that paper manufactures produce, or the rivers of filth from pig framing, or the unregulated pollution of a nation like China, its sex toys that are screwing things up. (Stands up ponds fist on table) We can not allow this to continue! I demand hybrid sex toys or sex toys made from ethanol!

Interestingly, when the homes of sea captains or seafaring men are renovated on the Isle of Nantucket – or to a lesser extent the town of New Bedford –sex toys pop up all the time. Usually in the chimney and the dildo is more often than not accompanied by letters of affection from the man of the house who is out at see for 5 years at a time. Apparently the women who ran Nantucket, the men being at sea most of the time, gave gifts of sex toys to the new brides in the community telling them to forget about their Quaker up bringing and get to it of they will go crazy. The term these women used for the dildo was the very clever, “he’s – at – home.”

I think I understand

So, we should not use "baby toys, shampoos, bottles" as sex toys, just seaweed. Right? Okay. I'll try (almost) anything once.

Now pronounce phthalates ten times fast. Naked. With your wife. No need for sex toy, if you can do that. (If you get my drift.)

OK, so phthalates is a nonissue. (Moan and groan), what a thread about the Dildo turned out to be, we go from

Forget hot wax and nipple clamps
to

phthalates

Dioxin that paper manufactures produce

have you ever had a dildo used on you?

Have we too much time on our hands in our hectic life gents? :-) Let's talk about the disposal of Latex Pasties and the effects they are having on the Greened Eyed Tree Frog, as researched by Diego and Alecia next!
Another term from being "green" is "inexperienced", now you tell me, inexperienced and sex toys, isn't that an Oxymoron??

Not a problem here

I was just a little amused how it was getting disected and tried to make light of it when I was pissed off this morning and sorry bout the tone, my kid has been having a love hate relationship with me today, as in he's loving to hate on me today. So we are both grounded to the house for the day.
All because last night he told me he's not my friend anymore and hates me, this because we had a power strugggle with crying and hitting between him and mom and I messed his plans up, and I got in trouble by her for who knows what when I was protecting her...

My wife says my sense of humor progressively degenerated the longer I taught middle school. While it may be immature, I didn't purposefully place the pun but I do find it funny.

s$#?

I'm wondering why the subject line on the op now reads S$#.
Is sex not a suitable topic of conversation for fathers?

Sugarmamasboy,
Sex is how these kids all came about. Apparently it stops or slows after they arive.

Naw

Once old and out off office most Republican Prezees are harmless. They go about collecting huge fees from comapines they padded out while in office but they don't continue to do much harm. GH Bush acctualy tried to do some good but I think he's trying to get into Heaven.

Agreed on transfats. :-)

The Water Connection

I was too caught up ribbing or esteemed TickTock to remember to post this.

Research about phthalates started appearing around 2000 as I recall. I remember this because I was working at Eastern Mountain Sports at the time. Why I remember this is because as we all know Nalgine has a near monopoly on water bottles, but, they make most of their bottles out of lexan a nonporous form of plastic that is durable and rugged. Suddenly Sigg and Klean, both European companies, hit the U.S. with metal water bottles at the same time we are being flooded with information that plastic water bottles, even lexan bottles, are unsafe.

I'm not a conspiracist at heart but I, as did most of my fellow outdoor enthusiasts, found that a tad fishy. Besides a metal water bottle can be crushed and dented a lexan bottle can be cracked if water freezes in it but that is about it.

Be Seeing You.
Jonathan

i agree with Randy

Let's just say old white republican males are a bad thing and transfats but I still eat hotdogs so I gotta say nitrates ain't so bad.

By the way where is this thread going? We went from Dildos and landfills to vacations and an edited dildo article.

Man, what if dildos were made of Styrofoam.

Nalgene

Quote:
found that a tad fishy

I would say that it was smart marketing on their part. Even a perceived health threat can drastically alter sales. Mad cow meat and Bird Flu chicken scares drove down the sale of both of those products.

Nalgene was still making the original bottle until recently. I think they would have discontinued it permanently if it were a true danger to human health, which they've now done as a precaution because of the ingredient bisphenol A.. They recently took the bottles off the shelf until more research can be done because...

Quote:
Research on lab animals has linked the chemical to changes to the genital tract, prostate enlargement, declined testosterone levels, pre-cancerous breast cells, prostate cancer, early puberty in females and hyperactivity.

I had a hunch that the new bottle designs were environmentally based and this was the first quote I found...

Quote:
Drinks from non-plastic vessels taste better. Plastic is a non-renewable resource, its manufacture is energy- and resource-intensive, and in many cases highly toxic. It does not biodegrade. Polyvinyl-chloride manufacturing releases dioxins, as does the incineration of said PVC. Plastic used in food applications can get worn and torn and eventually harbor terrorist bacteria. Plastics recycling is also known as "downcycling," because each reiteration of your original bottle is of lower quality than the next, until at last the landfill beckons.

I don't blame anyone for wanting to play it safe with products that seem sketchy and unhealthy. I just want to make it clear that I'm not judging anyone on their choices.

Man- I hate the sound of styrofoam rubbing against anything. Can you imagine hearing your neighbors through the walls using one of those? That, to me, would be worse than fingernails on a chalkboard.

The Market

Oh I agree it was timing but it seemed funny.
As wel all know the media announces every single bit of research like it's the new Gospel. When in truth these stories get coverd because they are easy and all of the wokl gets sent right to the news angency. Many studies relese preliminary findings but warn they may change but everyone gobbles up the news as if it is instantly credable.

Styrafoam sex toys? Styrafoam is almost endlessly recylable so may be that's a good idea.

EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) Sex Toys

New No.2 wrote:

EPS can only be recycled if it is dry, clean, and free of any contaminants, since EPS is easily contaminated when recycled. Therefore, using EPS for sex toys would preclude them from being recycled.

BTW, Styrofoam® is a registered brand trademark of Dow Chemical for a polystyrene material used in home insulation. Just as all paper copies should not be called "Xerox"es, all EPS should not be called "Styrofoam".

What about...

a cucumber?

It's green, available in organic (for the chemically conservatives), can be peeled or not and used for salad or compost.
