My sister-in-law's husband is a Hoover firefighter. Part-time for now (someone has to retire or die to get in full time with that department) and full-time in Odenville where they live.
If you ever want to bring the kid up to HSV to the Space & Rocket Center, let me know. Membership has it's advantages.
That would actually be awesome. I just really started taking my daughter to the Birmingham Zoo. Bought a membership, and she knows all her animals now. I bet she would enjoy it.
Congrats to you for both your baby and being a SAHD. I've never met anyone on here in person, but I'm definitely open to it. My daughter is almost 18 months old. What's your regular email address? Mine's rcksngr@gmail.com
I am new to the site but it looks like all the Group's posts are almost a year old. Anyone still around? Would be great to exchange tip/tricks and places to go. I in Birmingham.
I'm here, fairly new myself. I'm a bit south of you in Prattville, just outside of Montgomery.
My girls are 4 and 18 months. I take them to the zoo and the pool at the YMCA. Beyond that, I don't really get them out much except for shopping or running errands. I do some side work on weekends and try to include the entire family in that, last weekend I finished an install at a lakehouse while my wife and kids played in the pool with my friend's son.
More than anything I've learned where to avoid (anti-dad mom groups locations) than tips/tricks of my own...everything else I've managed by trying to find cheap places to go with the kids. :)
Its now January 2011 and the last couple posts were early 2010... I'm a stay at home dad in Cullman, AL. We moved from Auburn to Birmingham when my son was very young and then from Birmingham to Cullman last August/September. We don't really know anyone outside of the few college friends that remained in Auburn. I'm looking to meet some fellow stay at home dad's and possibly get together and do things like visit the Botanical Gardens or Zoo in B'ham or make a day trip to the Atlanta Aquarium of which I am a member with a guest pass (that means I can get you in for free!). It doesn't have to be trips though, my son is about 14months old, he is very well behaved and loves other children. A lot of my friends have kids, but they don't live anywhere near us, so the only time he gets to interact with other kids is when we go to visit my family down in Tampa, FL.
A little about myself... I'm 24. I'm not a native born Alabamian. My parents were born and raised here but I grew up in Tampa, FL. I went to Auburn University, which is the Alma Mater of many of my family members, met my wife there, and have since remained in Alabama. I enjoy going to the park nearly every day and walking a couple miles, taking my son to feed the ducks and walking and playing with our 2 dogs. I like to play video games on occasion when I have the time (we have a Wii and Xbox360). My wife is a professional woman and her job sometimes requires that she be gone for a few days each week, so entertaining our son is a full time responsibility. I provide a seemingly endless supply of things for us to do either around the house or around town.
If anyone is still in this group, you can send me an email at fountmw@gmail.com. I wait to hear from fellow Stay At Home Dads. Hopefully someone on here is still around.
My Triplets are almost 4 1/2. We go to the Zoo and the McWayne Science Center a lot. We just bought passes to Alabama Adventures for this Summer. Last Summer we went to the pool (YMCA and my Mom's apartment complex) a lot. My wife is an Auburn grad so we are a War Eagle family. We are both 40. I have been a SAHD since our three were 18 months old. You have a lot of fun times ahead of you! Wish you had a PS3 or I had an Xbox, love playing Black Ops:)
Hey fellas its actually a relief to know I'm not alone lol. Im LaJuan, I am originally from Michigan, been here since 2008, and Xzavier was born 3/19/2010. He is an amazing blessing to us both. Im 37, unemployed again, have gained like 25-30 lbs since being here. I love cigars, golf, tennis, cycling, bball, playing cards, just hanging out really. It sounds like Im on a dating site lol, too funny. Anyway its good to find something like this, even though Im bald, I've been over here pulling my hair out!
I believe in a higher knowledge in which that knowledge we all feed from. I dont care if you choose to follow Islam, Christianity, Judahism, Scientology, whatever, one thing I will do is respect you for your beliefs. I only mention religion because I know I live in the bible belt, and 70% of the people I converse with ask me "so have you found a church home?" gotta love the south.
My lady is amazing, even though we have our bouts , she still stands by me and I do love her. I hope this forum will help get rid of some of my mental hard aches Im going through? Its tough when you're in a new state without family or friends to be there for you. Well I think Im about to wrap this up before I get too carried away, besides I have homework to at least look at, cant say I'll even start it at this point lol. peace!
Just moved to the Huntsville area from L.A. (lower Alabama) that is. Not from AL originally but it has been my home since 2005. I am a SAHD to a 9 1/2 month old daughter. I write part time from home. Hope all is well with the fellow SAHDs!
Woot!
I'm not alone!
I know when to scream War Eagle, anytime they aren't playing 'Bama.
