DOA

I think the general consensus was that it was just too hard, considering that our target audience is a group of guys who can really only chat for a little while during nap time, to coordinate. I know that for a while when I first joined the group in Jan '07 we had live chat- and literally NO ONE used it. I'd like live chat as well, but I'm thinking maybe a Yahoo IM kind of thing works best for me, at least.

I dunno.

The last thing I need is another reason to stay on longer during the morning, day, afternoon, late afternoon, evening, night, late night, and wee early hours. I have no idea who watches my kids.

No, not at all. Feel free to bring up whatever you want. But, Jon and JP's comments pretty are a good summary of the situation. I also like that the forums provide a record of the conversations for newcomers, search engines, and other people who can't be around for live chats.

For now (and based on the past experience), I think that the effort to do it would be better spent on other things. You can always swap IM contact info with whoever you want to chat with. Maybe start a thread for exchanging contact info for those who are interested?
