When you all have some time and want an adult beverage what do you go for?

My favorite is probably La Fin du monde
But I also like a dry Bombay Sapphire
Unfortunately I usually end up drinking this or this.
What are some good beers everyone else drinks, I really want to know some quality local microbrews so I can plan my next vacation. ;)

Cheer Cheer

Scotch, of the single malt variety is my preferred tasting when I'm feeling debonair but not everyday due to $$$ and served neat at that. Or else it’s just the scotch found down there on the bottom shelf, again neat or with a splash.
I do watch my belly and try to keep it down so I will swill an occasional Miller Lite product when the wife isn’t looking. Again when I'm feeling suave, the seasonal flavor of any New Belgium product is a fav, especially the -2 Below when it’s in stock.
I hope a New Belgium product is on tap or kept at the proper temp. in KC Nov.3!
Kev, La Fin du Monde would work, now that's class!

Three Floyds in NW Indiana

Three Floyds in NW Indiana is quite good, and I enjoy Goose Island's Reserve beers, especially the Bourbon County Stout, which, sadly, is only available from about Thanksgiving through New Years (although you might be able to find it at a good beer bar). A really nice single malt scotch (Bunnahabhain, Talisker, Oban) is also quite a treat!

mmm, beeer

Yes, Doug, Three Floyds http://www.threefloydspub.com/beermenu.html
I like the Alpha King, Robert The Bruce and Gumball Head.
Three Floyds and Rogues Dead Guy http://www.rogue.com/brews.html#deadguy seem to be popular choices at the ChicagoDads DNO's.

I am also a fan of anything New Belgium http://www.newbelgium.com/index.phpand a new fan of Boulevard Brewery http://www.blvdbeer.com/ in KC!

I hope that we can have our meet and greet there again this year!

New Belgium

There is a new Spring beer out called "Springboard" , it has a pretty weird taste but I could probably get used to it.

Have You Heard

When I was in Washington, the state of, seakayaking this last fall it was the rage of the local Micro Pubs in the San Juans to offer a Scotch Beer. Pretty good if not great, a mild scotch blended in with hops, I'd do it again if I could find it.
Brew pubs there with WIFI, pretty cool -but you gotta watch those waitresses moving full pints across your laptop.
As a rule PC's and brew do not mix!

New Belgium - Bah!

Mile-Hi: you will find some of the New Belgium beers in bottles, but why bother...KC is home to MO's best regional brewery, Boulevard. Make sure you're there by Nov. 2, we hope to have the Friday evening Meet & Greet in the Brewery's tasting room...

- Andy

Boulevard is good, but

Don't diss New Belgium! You gotta love a totally wind powered brewery that brews some of the tastiest beers west of the Mississippi!

c'mon Andy! A little bias opinion perhaps?

No, really, I am a (new) big fan of the Blvd! An I WILL be there on the 2nd!

Goose Island

I'm also a fan of Goose Island here in Chicago. 312 Urban Wheat and their reserve Pere Jacques. Although Bell's is no longer available in Illinois, I'll snag a few when I'm in Michigan (like this weekend). Any Belgian-style brew is good in my book.

Schlafly

Boulevard is pretty good but I think Schlafly in St. Louis has better beer. They aren't as large as Boulevard but they do have to fight the *other* brewery we have here in St. Louis. In fact they built another restaurant just outside the city limits for their bottling operations so they wouldn't have to deal with the dumb St. Louis brewing laws that basically only allow Anheuser-Busch to make beer.

I am Always Game

When it comes to trying the local flavors I am always game, if the local opinion says Boulevard is the local flavor to beat, then mark me down for a pack of 6 to bring home and share. But I seem to always go back to a New Belgium product, must be that Colorado water!
Missouri, Wisconsin and Colorado seem to be a meccas for the beer lover and I have converted more than a couple Cheese Heads to the Colorado New Belgium taste on our annual pilgrimage to the inlaws in Milwaukee.
Is it coincidence the Bud, Miller and Coors beers are the top domestic volume swills and they happen to come from these states?
Lets not even discuss and argue swill, as any Micro outclasses this type; they are not even worthy of the same posting, so sorry for going off track. Just trying to liven it up around here! I know, I know sorry...

Cheers

Not much of a beer drinker anymore, guess I had too much in college years.
If I do enjoy a beer it is usually Abita Purple Haze, Goose Island 312, or Blue Moon.
Drink of choice is double of Maker's Mark over a few ice cubes.

weigh in on the beer tournament

www.washingtonpost.com/beermadness

rolling rock over budweiser?

saranac over seirra neveda?

and while we're on this topic, i'm looking for a new cheap beer for band practice nights. just so you know, we've already burnt out on PBR and High Life. Someone suggested
Busch Ice but I might as well drink real malt liquor not malt liquor for white guys in oxford shirts.

Coors original seems like a deal here with an 18-pakc going for just under nine bucks.

any pointers on a good $6-$9 twelve or 18 pack would be appreciated...

Conspiracy?

Budweiser bought Rolling Rock over the summer. I wonder if they did it knowing the beer tournament was coming up? lol

Check if you have Natural Light in your area. It tastes about the same as Miller Lite, but with even less flavor. In St. Louis you can get a 30 pack for $11-$14. Works out great for float trips or other situations where quantity not quality matters.

Mmmmm, Bud Rock!

I just hope it'd heavy on the Rolling! Just another blazing Saturday night while sipping a Miller Lite and drooling over the Micro postings. All while the kid is doing Sesame Street downstairs as the wife watches the boob tube and being the kid/PC go-between.

I have escaped to our loft office to check in to see what's up with the latest Dad posting's and my e mail. Hmm, not much here or in my Outlook, I think I'll knock of a couple pages maybe even a chapter or two of WEB Griffin’s "The Hunters". Awesome book 3 in a great series, highly recommended!

Sorry, I'm just welcoming my being bored. On another note, we start Tiny Tykes Soccer Monday night and I'm sure I'll be on a rant for something after that. This dad will stand aside and let another dad coach and support him 110% while I do a lot of nothing for 1 hour, or maybe not.

cheap beer

As far as cheap beer for band practice, you cold give Old Milwaukee a try.
I was once told it's the exact same beer as MGD without money being spent on marketing & advertising. Perhaps you could do a taste test?
In Baton Rouge band practice beer was Abita Turbodog and in Chicago it was Old Style.

band beer

my older brother, who lives in west chester, penn., used to swear by Old Mil and i tried it a few times years ago but for some reason the distro here of it is weird and i only can find Old Mil NA. another beer he swears by is Coors Original which i found for $9 an 18 pack and i'm thinking so far, so good but my drummer grew up in fort collins, colorado and well i guess it's like the Natty Bo of CO.
(i went to college in Baltimore and we could get $3 12 packs of Natty Bo. Plus it was the beer of the Orioles).

keep the suggestions coming!

I do not know about you gents, but…

The Trev, my 4 YO son friends name adaptation (Trevor) from across the street and 2 houses down, well his mom has been bringng me a beer when she gets home from work so I can join her in a quick happy time as the kids vroom their trikes, scooters and bikes. I really appreciate this as my leash is pretty short these days.
Anyway, I have been a “less filling, tastes great” kind of person lately; she has been bringing me a frosty cold Bud Light, now I have never been a Bud guy mind you; but after these hot days the Bud Light keeps refreshed sip after sip where other flavors get kind of thick as they empty and the increase in outdoor temp from 99 to 150 or so it seems on her west facing driveway. No other brew has ever kept its freshness and therefore me fresh, so I have been buying the pack of six in the 16 oz variety, goes down oh so good lately.
Gents, it just goes to show you, the best beer is the one given to you!
PS: Kev, try Tommyknockers in Idaho Springs, CO, the Butthead Bock will do you right! tommyknocker.com

My favorite is Gordons

My favorite is Gordons Space, spiced Rum. It's available in Greece and im sure other countries in europe, also Ursus Roter vodka is pretty good. Well it's really good both the gordons space doesn't taste at all like alcohol it's probably the only drink I can have while eating wings, im definitely not a beer and wings guy i rather have a coke or something with them....The Ursus can be drank straight and is great but you'll end up in alcohol rehab real quick with it since you don't taste anything but fruit when drinking it.

Sorry to hear

about your friend, gordman. I know a little of how you feel since I have a bit of alcoholism in my family. I just lost another cousin this year to it. It's an easy hole to fall into and, of course, one that we should all be aware of.

But, as I am sure you are aware, your friend's problem(s) went deeper than just a the beer. That is, the beer wasn't his problem, it just made the problem go away for a little while.

That is something valuable about this website and this connection to other SAHD's. While the guys here talk about a good drink, they do so just like they talk about a good meal, a good game, or shaving... things, etc. I have not read anything that makes me think these guys drink like college kids or alcoholics.

It is interesting to note that, as the homemaker's "happy hour" of the 1950's has deteriorated; it seems to have been replaced by Prozac -- but it still exists. I am actually a little jealous of MileHiDad's happy hour ritual. I think that sort of thing can be vital to our sanity at times.

However, I personally just don't drink a lot. It doesn't do much for me. When I do, it's the good stuff. Newcastle. :) Most of the time, though, I drink soda and hot tea. I'm guess I am a wimp. But if you want to know anything about tea, I am the man.

Let's talk tea. I used to drink it several times a day, but after becoming an AHD I switched to coffee because it seems to take a little less effort and packs a greater punch. Today, I happened upon my local tea store and picked up two ounces of Yerba Mate, which isn't tea in the technical sense (isn't from the Camellia Sinensis plant I don't believe), but is supposed to pack quite a caffeine punch. I'm going to try it tomorrow instead of my usual coffee and will report.

Yerba Mate and more

That is my choice for tea and when I need a good not too jittery caffiene rush. Be sure to wet it before you brew it. Try lapacho as well as it blends nicely with Mate.

As for beer I am on a Dog Fishhead kick. 90 min. IPA and Midas Elixir are in the fridge as is some left over Guiness from St. Patty's Day food and beer fest. I am more of a scotch (laphroig, macallen or Ancnoc) but when I can get it there is nothing better than Paddy's Irish Whiskey. If you never had it it is like John Powers but smoother and with more layer to it.

I have been an "almost" abstainer since I could not find my two favorites beers.

So here I found "Boulevard"

Well most of the time I go

Well most of the time I go for beer, it always works for my changing my mood so why risk with another drink. Actually I have few good friends that think likewise, so whenever we go out beer is our ultimate choice, we even got pretty familiar with some beer clubs here in the area.
