What are you guys listening to right now? I am a music nut, with 3000+ CD's in my collection (That is not a joke. But just to clarify, I am not a pack-rat :-) Since I can store most of my music digitally now, I can ask what other people are into and not have to worry about where I am going to put the CD when I buy it. I have found some really good kids music like Trout Fishing in America, but when my daughter is asleep I have found myself indulging in a lot of underground heavy metal, like Earth and my old Iron Maiden vinyl albums. Those are two extremely different musical styles to be jumping back and forth between during the day. And I'm dreading the possible afternoon when Metallica's "Creeping Death" comes blasting out of the car speakers accidentally, scaring the shit out of her, and me having to open a savings account for her future therapy. So, do you guys know of any good, maybe mellow, stuff that will provide me with some balance?

Trip-Hop

I used to listen to a lot of "trip-hop" music. Massive Attack, Air, Zero7, Portishead... Easy enough as background music but interesting to listen to if you want to pay attention.

Wouldn't say

That's a neat and clean package ;-) Some folks haven't been heard from since that infamous music post. Still- good starting ground- just don't ask DKremers what he's into.... :-)

a random list

Here's a random list of stuff that's mellower than Metallica and Iron Maiden:

1) Flight of the Conchords (I love the show, and their new album cracks me up)

2) Chin Up Chin Up (heartland indie rock; my nearly 6-year-old son loves it)

3) Clinic (Scottish; influenced by Velvet Underground, '60s girl groups and surf rock)

4) Sons & Daughters (more Scots)

5) Arthur & Yu (nice male/female duets, mellow. If you like Dean & Britta, Nancy Sinatra/Lee Hazelwood, you'll dig this)

6) Looper (yes, another Scottish combo; electro-pop)

7) Flaming Lips (my favorite band; kid-friendly most of the time; no swears; songs about UFO's)

8) Cake (more funny stuff, but with occasional swearing)

Right now ...

... Blue October - sorta depressing tho.

I tend to eliminate the thinking and enjoy Sirius: Boombox, Chill, Faction

I have the same dichotomy, so I found "Rockabye Baby" and it solve part of my days.
