Stimulation! ;-)

I just got my tax rebate yesterday, and I can't wait to go and Stimulate The Economy™! My wife and I got a whopping $1500. No small chunk of change there! We are going to save the money and use it towards a down payment on our next new vehicle purchase. However, before said vehicle is purchased, my wife has clearly stated to me that she must be pregnant again with child number two. How is that for an ultimatum?

If you received a tax rebate, what are you and your family planning on doing with it?

Toshiba

With the whopper we aquired, I went out and bought a Toshiba satellite for my honey for mothers day/graduation.
No more slow computer for my wife (and me).
And the kids can play all they want with the old one.

My Turn

With ours we are going to take the Amtrak to the in-laws instead of driving (it's actually happening next week) to be there for the high school graduation of our niece. The kids are really looking forward to riding the train like that. My wife is looking forward to seeing her family, and I'm looking forward to seeing a friend and fellow SAHD that lives out there (let's make it happen this time Mike :P).
As for you guys...way to go ticktock. It's always great to pay those things off. I know my wife and I were pretty excited when we paid ours off. And Randy...I think you should start now with repeated performances ;). Just make sure kid #2 doesn't come along too quickly. Sounds like an awesome plan to me...a car in exchange for lots of sex.

ear tube surgery

we are using our $1500 for our 14 mo old's ear tube surgery. can you believe that we had to pay about $1000 for our share of the cost AFTER insurance. you'd think with the amount of premiums these insurance companies get, we'd pay less when we actually needed to use it.

we also put a down payment on a minivan.

I spent $80 on old truck

I spent $80 on old truck parts for my 68 Chevy and $50 on a Magic Bullet mixer for smoothies and margaritas. And I think that is about all of the $1800 I am going to get to touch.

The kids got new underwear yesterday and the wife got to hide the rest of the PREFUND.

You might want to just send the money back. Much cheaper than a second child.

We impulse bought

Replaced our four year old Toshiba Satellite with a shiny new Satellite. 17" widescreen P205d-S7802. It's got Vista, which is proving to be the bane of my existence, but on the plus side, it'll handle all of my photo editing needs nicely. And on clearance for $530 at the Worst Purchase in Montgomery, it was too good to pass up.

Even if it is freaking huge.

As to the remaining $900+, taking the wife out for a belated Mother's Day, paying back some money to her dad (for some reason in their amily they actually expect you to pay them back if you borrow money from them), and helping pay for her new found addiction to playing hockey.

Paid a bill

Grocery shopping and into the bank for the rest of the month. The wife just changed jobs, so it will help us through that lean period in between.

I wanted to get a laptop -

I wanted to get a laptop - it would be my 1st - but we have to pay off our 'furniture bill'. The store account will start throwing interest at us soon, so we had better pay the piper before they want extra loot for the loot we borrowed.

for a friends wedding and pay off bills once it arrives in June 'cause I used Turbo Tax and had them take the filing out of my return. So I have to wait for the Mailperson.

AHD Convention

I was going to use it at the AHD convention, but it sounds like $1500 won't even cover the bar tab.

My Turn Revisited

We found really cheap airline tickets and used it on that instead of the train. They were actaully even cheaper than the train was so we came out ahead :). Mike, you'll do fine with your bar tab at the convention. JPhilip is footing the bill for everyone this year so we don't have to worry about it :P.

Trains

That is why the train system is in so much trouble always. More expensive, slower and much less reliable that the airlines.

Train vs. Airplane

Don't know about that Greg...the last few times we checked train vs. airline price, the train was cheaper for the trip we were taking. Also, the last time we took the train all of our luggage made it to where we were going. The flight we just had, the suitcase with our kids clothes in it somehow took 2 days longer to get to where we were going than the rest of us did. Hmmmmmm....LOL!

I may be different

Depending on the area you are in. I live right off of the Transcontinental Railroad line and i can tell you that the Amtrak varies hugely in what time it goes by. When I compared a trip from here to San Francisco, it was more expensive than flying. That said, I really want to take the train over to Sacramento some time as I cannot imagine a more beautiful route than going over the Sierras.
