my wife brought up the question last night about whether or not i can file for unemployment. i told her i didn't think so since I left my job on my own accord. does anyone know what the requirements are? i would think that you'd only get it if you are laid off, not if you decided to quit your job to stay at home with your child.

i think you're right

I got benefits for a while after I got laid off before taking on this job. As you said, since you left of your own accord, you're not going to get anything, unless the state where you live is Dreamland.

Maybe you could look into the fantastic opportunity I heard an ad for on the radio today: selling plasma TVs, iPods and other high-tech gear on eBay without having to actually buy the items or store them. I didn't stick around to hear exactly how this "miracle elixir" is supposed to work.

Yup

You and Dave are right. You gotta get fired to collect unemployment. Even then, it is a limited benefit, I think only about six weeks.

You also have to keep actively applying

You have to keep reporting in and showing that you are going to interviews (at least in MO) I tried it when I was laid off once and it was a PITA. I don't understand how people can scam it for money, it's harder that going to work!
