We try to get to the Big House. We've decided not to get alumni tickets so we only make it one game a year or so. We see it frequently though since its about 1 1/2 miles away.

I have yet to find a active group of dads in Ann Arbor. I do hang out with a friend who is in the same boat as myself and our kids are close in age. I'm not quite sure how to get it started so if you have any ideas please let me know!

Let me know about the conference, i'd be interested!

dad's group

in ontario we have early years centres, esentially a drop in for parents with kids under the age of 6.
Mine, St. Mary's Family Learning, also offers numerous parenting classes of which i have taken all but one. my interest showed the staff that they could approach me to determine if i would like to do more. first it was sitting on the board of directors then it was facilitating classes. now due to the number of fathers attending the centre they asked me about hosting a dad's night. i started january of 2007 once a month 7-8:30 p.m. i moderate the discussion and give every one a chance to talk. it essential goes like this.

6:45 - 7:10 the boys arrive and b.s. about sports and guy stuff
7:15 i give the ground rules ie. everyone speaks as permitted and i moderate, sometimes i throw out topics based on current events and newspaper articles
and then i go around the room "who has an issue" and an hour later as the boys are throwing their 2 cents in , i need to tell them its time to go

we serve pizza and pop (literally pop we don't have a liquor licence)
i usually get 8-12 dads, some stay at home others just really involved dad's
i also have a staff member from the centre in the building if there is an immediate issue i am not qualified for

i will be starting up agian in sept. we break for the summer, if you are interested and have the time come on over i can give you instructions on how to find us
