My partner and I brought our son home in September 2007, when he was just 3 1/2 months old. His adoption was final in April 2008. In May we celebrated his 1st birthday. Shortly thereafter, we submitted the paperwork to start the adoption process again! We plan to use the same agency, Adoption Connection. We also developed our own website (www.mikeandmichael.info) and adoption blog. We'll keep you posted on our progress!
We love being dads so much that we are ready to adopt again!

Good for you guys! I'm curious how long the process takes. I've been following my cousin and his wife on their blog as they go through adopting a girl from Mexico and it seems to be taking forever, with lots of hoops to jump through.

Dave: from the time Mike and I chose to adopt (vs. surrogacy) in April 2006 and the time our son's adoption was final in April 2008, the time was two years. This timeline included lots of down time on our part and a slower than normal birthmother load at the agency. There is also a 6-month post-placement agency supervision that takes place. So even though we brought Christopher home in Sept., his adoption wasn't final until April.
Our agency told us that hetero couples average 11 months for domestic adoptions and same-sex couples average 13 months. I understand that international adoptions are lengthier. As a same-sex couple, we don't have many options internationally.
From the time we were "ready" (i.e., homestudy approved, birthmother letter completed), it took 7 months. However, at month five we signed up with a facilitator that matched us within 2 months.
jimpmc: I would be happy to chat with your friends.

You are both Michael? Doesn't that get awfully confusing sometimes? From your website it looks like you go by Michael and he goes my Mike. Anyway...a couple of things I want to say. 1. Welcome to the site; it's good to have you (are you both here?). 2. I checked out your website and Christopher is adorable! and 3. Good luck on your next addition to the family! Hopefully this one will go faster.

Hey man,
Thanks!
You know, Mike and I (Michael) have been together for nine years now, so it's not that confusing anymore. Interestingly enough, though, my family call me Mike and his still call him Michael...remnants of our childhood.
You will primarily find me (Michael) here!

LOL! Still sounds confusing to me. But like I said, welcome to the site; it's good to have you guys here. I get the name thing with the family though. I go pretty much strictly by David, but still get called Dave by many people. Accept, of course, for those 2 old aunts of mine that still call me Davy. I don't think they'll ever quit doing that!

LOL...nope. Just a throw back to what all Davids are called when they are little around here. And you know those old aunts...in their eyes you are always that little boy.

Congrats on the adoption! My wife and I had been trying to get pregnant for over two years and had been about to go the adoption route when it finally happened. A guy I worked with had two lovely girls he adopted and was giving me lots of helpful advice. I was so jealous of him every morning when he would come in and place his two little pictures right in front of his computer screen. I'm glad we all get to share in that joy now. Hopefully your second adoption will move as quickly as possible!
p.s. The picture of your son with Santa is awesome!

Glad to hear that all worked out well for you and your wife. Mike and I were quite pleased with the arrival of our son, and look forward the our next baby.
Christopher has a great disposition, and seems to have little fear when it comes to meeting new people. Suffice it to say, pictures with Santa and the Easter Bunny went well. I hope it stays that way!
