Today my wife and I brought our daughter with us to drop our son, Owen, off for kindergarten. All families were invited to see the books the kids had written. Owen was very happy to show us his book, "The Playdate," which is about having fun with his friend Zoe. The kids all wrote and illustrated their own books, which are hardcover books complete with About the Author pages and author pictures.
I'm so proud of the story he wrote and the illustrations he did. He's had a great year in kindergarten and made so many strides both academically and socially (he's still a pretty shy kid, but he's learning to deal with that better every day). His teacher has been great, so open and encouraging and respectful of the kids and their different abilities and learning styles.
There's only one problem: my six-year-old son has published a book before me!
I've been working on a collection of short stories off and on for a few years, and hope to have it done this year (funny, I said that last year, too!). I've got new inspiration to get it done now.
