What to do for Fathers Day?

Ok, here is the dilemma. I have no clue what to tell my wife what I want to do tomorrow. She keeps asking, and I keep saying I don't know. I know what I really want to do (spend the day fighting fire and then come home and play with the kids,) but that is kind of hard for her to arrange. I know I should spend time with the kids, but I do that all week. I feel bad if I tell them I would like some alone time, besides after about 30 minutes, it gets pretty boring, no matter what I am doing. We are going to a movie, but that is because mom and I have been gone for three days and the kids were super good at the sitters.

Any ideas would be great.

All I want to do is sit

All I want to do is sit back, have some beers, and cookout. Go to the pool with the kids and enjoy the day. Maybe later start a fire and cook smores. But rain is in the forcast so now I'm screwed.

I guess I'll let the kids

I guess I'll let the kids plan it out. It's more for them than it is for me.

Do whatever you want to do!

I'm watching political shows all morning. Especially, Meet the Press. :(

cooking out

My in-laws are coming over later for a cookout, along with sis-in-law, her husband and my nephew. The ladies are supplying the food, but I'll be doing the grilling, weather permitting. I guess we're going out for lunch, which will be good.

My wife and kids gave me some nice gifts this morning -- couple of t-shirts, new shorts and some funky "sidewalk surfer" shoes (http://www.sanuk.com/) that I'm not so sure about.

Right now my wife and son are watching "Tom & Jerry" while the baby is fussing her way toward a nap. I don't have any special plans, nor do I need any today. If I'm lucky I'll get to watch a little more of the Red Sox than I usually get to do.

Just say what you want..

..he says boldly, having not mentioned that he'd want to play board games all day. (But what the hey, I get together with a dozen friends to do that first Sunday of every month anyway. So, I only have three weeks to go!)

By the way, my wife made me an awesome Father's Day present: a handmade card fronted with a picture of my truffle pig (that's the daughter: a Golden Pig baby who makes lovely "truffling" noises) and me and containing a list of 50 things my daughter loves to do with me. "Riding Daddy's shoulders for a Barnyard Dance", "Chewing on Daddy's leg at bathtime" (boy does that tickle.. but now the teeth are coming in). :) :) :)

Cheers,
Steve
