"For others its laziness, you're too lazy to work and support your children. I'm talking about men. You call yourself Mr. Mom, God calls you a bum. St. Paul says you are worse than an infidel. Let me look you right in the eye and tell you that Hell is your future home if all you do is sit on your backside and let your wife support you in your life."

Hehe

Well, if I'm wrong, and there is an afterlife, then I'm looking forward to it. Heaven sounds like such a boring place especially if assholes like this would be there.

gwb and gbs are right

I agree with GWB, heaven, if it exists, is likely pretty goddamn dull. I like the way George Bernard Shaw wrote about it in "Man and Superman," which I read in college. To summarize and colloquialize in a big way, Shaw's point is that heaven is filled with do-gooders and dullards, whereas hell is where the party people are at.

Like New No. 2 said, doesn't this bonehead have anything better to do than to tell SAHDs that they are bad people because they aren't fulfilling what I guess is some bullshit from the Bible about the man being the head of the household?

Now I get it!

So that is why my wife has been going along with this SAHD thing for 6 years. If I go to hell then she gets to date in the afterlife!

Oh thank God

Well I am not sure where the hell that leaves me. My wife recently had me leave the house I had the kids for the first few weeks 5 days a week now I have them a minimum of 5 days 4nights and every other weekend. This week I am looking at 24/7. She thinks $200 a week is sufficient to make matters worse she out of the 8 or so weeks of me being out has given me only $200. I am trying to make as much money as possible just to survive. Now I want to know who should go to hell.

This is where organized religion goes so wrong the bible was written how long ago. Jesus forgives hookers just not stay at home dads oh now I understand.

Need I point out this fat shit has spent some time on his backside scarfing down God only knows what living off of donations from people he puts the fear of ending up in hell. Was it Gods intention for people to reproduce and then have our family raised by strangers running day care centers. I will screw my kids up on my own I do not need anyone else to do it for me plus I just do not trust them. I know in my relationship my X-wife has admitted she would not have been able to stay at home with the kids.

One thing all S.A.H.D. should look forward to in hell are all the M.I.L.F.S. and soccer moms that will apparently be accompanying us in our final destination because laziness knows no sex
5.4 million moms and 98,000 dads according to 2004 census
So what is that 55.10 women a peice SHHHiiiiiTTTTT.
Hmmmmm where do I want to be?

Well now

That's one dude we should definately invite to the convention. (and beat him senseless)

I'm not getting on my soapbox about right wing nutjobs, but can they find any good in the world or do they have to pick on everything? What's wrong with my desire to be a trophy wife?? The truth is that I'm not lazy, I'm motivated...and Hell would welcome me with open arms. (for other transgressions not just my SAHD status)

Aye, there's nary an animal alive that can outrun a greased scotsman...

Maybe I can find the whole sermon on YouTube...

If I thought I could stomach it, that is.

It's suspicious that the clip is only 25 seconds, and starts and stops in a way as to make me wonder how Hagee got from 1 Timothy 5:8 to me going to Hell. He's a right-wing nut job for sure, but the source is a website run by left-wing nut jobs. Whose propaganda should I believe? Probably neither one. This is why I strive to be a conscientious objector in the culture wars.

My response to Hagee would be that he re-read Romans 12:3-8, and that I'd happily job swap with him for a day to see who works the hardest.

Mathew 7:1

Great Timothy quote Santiago. I also agree with your Romans quote.

I would add Mathew 7:1 "Do not judge, or you too will be judged."

Paddy,
Since you work the summer as a contractor you will only spend time in Puragtory. :-)

Be Seeing You.

PS Don't hate me but I couldn't resist. I'll let you know if I hear back.

Mr. Hagee,
Thanks for your anti-Christian, hate filled sermon about parenting. 1 Timothy 5:8 doesn’t say “Men work Women stay home.” It warns against providing for you family. As a rebuttal I would say Mathew 7:1 and Romans 12:3-8.

I also invite you –should you actually have the spine to do so – to check in with us At Home Dads at AtHomeDad.Org.

I would also add, you don’t have anything better to talk about to your congregation?

Just a note to Poomaster,

Just a note to Poomaster, Hagee is not "organized religion." He's out on his own - he and his church are not a part of any denomination and he speaks for no one other than himself. This is actually part of the problem with these independant churches and pastors - there is no oversight for teaching and rebuking or punishing.

I have been working in church ministry for many many years. The only thing that comes close to his statement is that the husband is to be the "head of the household" which a SAHD can still be, especially in the only sense that matters to the bible - faith. A SAHD can still very easily be the spiritual head of household (and still should IMHO) even if the wife earns the money.

A quick rebuttal to New No. 2, Matthew 7:1 is the most frequently mis-quoted verse in the bible. The passage continues:
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

I have no problem using the Bible to judge others or being judged by the Bible myself. If I am in error or my actions are in contrast to Biblical teaching, then I require my friends, family and observers to lovingly point this out to me and help me correct my direction/path of travel.

A short note to Hagee - he is obviously not familiar with Proverbs 31 - The Virtuous Woman. In it, you can read that she (a virtuous woman) "she provides food for her family," "She sets about her work vigorously," "her works bring her praise at the city gate." If she is this, and the other things noted in the passage, how can she possibly be a stay-at-home-mom? And would Jesus send his kid to baby-jail? (we call day care baby jail in our house) So if Mom has to work to be virtuous and day-care isn't an option, then dad at home had to be the biblical truth, yes?

(there are many passages about men working and respect and such, the last paragraph is not a biblical treatise, just poking holes in Hagee's argument)

Seems Odd

To pick on us givwn the number of men that beat their kids.
No I think all of Mathew 7:1 applies in this case as this bloke seems fairly judgemental of just about everything. I wouldn't have used it had I thought it improper. :-)

Men like Hagee irritate me

Men like Hagee irritate me when they single out a group of people who commit a certain sin and put all their energy into condemning them to hell. the truth is, lots of stay-at-home moms and working dads are going to hell too - if Jesus Christ isn't their personal Savior. I'm not going to drag this out, since I know the J-word is a touchy subject with a lot of people, but one thing the Bible says unquestionably is that we get to heaven on His goodness, not our own. You either believe the Bible or you don't, but you have to take it (or reject it) as a whole, not just the parts you agree or disagree with. You also have to consider the historical context: In New testament times, society as a whole assigned the roles of men as provider and women as nurturer. Slavery was an everyday thing too, though it was very different then that what we think of now. Paul and the other apostles laid down some guidelines that were in line with these social norms. In this day and age, we have different social norms. So if the Bible says that slaves must be obedient to their masters, do we have to go back to slavery? I should think not.
I didn't go to college right out of high school. I wasted 10 years trying to be a writer and then got an associates degree from a correspondence school. It is now very hard for me to find a decent job, even if I wanted one. But I married a woman that so fits my every need that I can't have any doubt that God made her just for me. She DID go to college and has a Bachelor's degree. She makes more money at her one job than I made back when I was working two. I may be staying home burping the baby and doing what many call "woman's work," and many conservatives may frown upon that, but I feel that I am playing the hand God has dealt me the best I can. And if Hagee doesn't like it, he can sit on a tack. Ouch!

So why don't they call it mooching when the wife stays home?

Last I checked no wars have been fought in the name of S@HDs

Regarding war, I believe that would be Religion - All, Stay at Home Dads - 0.
Hey Hagee, when God called me, he didn't say anything about me being a bum, but it's nice to hear that God has such human qualities as back-stabbing and name calling; especially nice to hear from such a credible source so close to Him and all.
But I'm confused here, is Hagee the pot or the kettle in this example?

And is it just me or is Hagee changing money/selling doves in the temple again? (Mark 11:15-17) Telling me I'm going to hell because I don't have a job that your pseudo-religion considers "man's work" while advertising on your post for work at home opportunities seems a tad hypocritical, but hey, I'm going to hell, so what do I know? Ya gotta love anybody who thinks this was what was meant by "the still small voice of God" leading us to righteousness. Does anybody ever renounce their wicked ways after chatting with these people or do they just pray for rapture so they can watch the look on these whack-jobs' faces when they get left behind? It's people like Hagee who give religious fanatics a bad name.

Hey Hagee, the Taliban called to say that they have no affiliation with you because they said you're views were too extremist for their tastes! I personally would love to get this guy together with Osama bin Laden for a think-tank session on the trouble with American men today. Now that would be some quality brainstorming going on there. Maybe we could invite Kim Jong-Il of Korea to round out our trio and give it just the right amount of perspective. So Hagee, what color IS the sky in your world?

I'd say see YOU in hell, but it seems you've escaped once already so I doubt you'll still be there by the time I arrive, so I'll just say it won't be the same without you and good luck in whatever afterlife you believe in....sounds like you'll be needing it and a whole lot more where you're headed.

Hagee kicked out of church for spilling secrets...

Tom Cruise called and said you've been excommunicated for telling us things we won't get to until we reach level 4. He said to say, "Sorry, dude. Rules are rules."

Talk about a 300+ lb. turd

From the looks of this fat ass he's spent a hell of amount of time on his back side eating and collecting food money from a clueless congregation to support his frequent gluttonous life style.

I suppose we can easily ask forgiveness for breaking the 11th Commandment, "thou shall not be a man and be so devoted to thine children that thou art actually there for them and take care of them whatsoever beyond daily bread winning, except on Sunday (or Saturday), taketh thy pick."

As Jesus said, "There will be many false teachers and false prophets".

McCain asks for Hagee's endorsement--google it yourself

I wish I were joking here, but despite this idiot's (Hagee's) laundry list of verbal f-ups and his anti-Semitic, anti-Catholic, and basically anti-everybody but those who donate generously to his church rants, McCain still sought him out to gain his endorsement. Thinking he had his 15 minutes coming, Hagee then went off on Catholics causing McCain to have to back-pedal once he heard about that and a lot of other comments made by the good reverend. He did NOT, however, distance himself from Hagee or reverse his efforts to gain his endorsement. He merely stated that he doesn't agree with everything he says, but still thinks he's a "good man." Apparently, his definition of a "good man" includes those who run their mouth and bash others in the name of God while asking for their money to support their bigoted views. No wonder Obama didn't bother.

More as a matter of curiosity than anything, does Hagee consider what he's doing a job or a mission? Crazy old fart probably won't allow his wife to have a job, for fear he won't look like the head of his household. What a kook.

What Paul said

was
(1Ti 5:8) But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially his family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an infidel.

Now I do have the Salvation of Christ and i will be going to Heaven one day because whether i work outside the house or not i support and provide for my family. Check out the Old testament there are hundreds of cases of Stay at Home dads.

My big concern is the context that this video was ripped out of and the people who just jumped on this message with out the whole truth of the message he spoke being seen. If this is truly what he meant by the speech i will be one of the first Christians to defend my Job and my Role in the family to Him. Or just totally ignore him and not waste my breath on his antics.

In Jesus,

Psychosahd . . .

I hear you, I do. However, whatever he said before or after "You call yourself Mr. Mom, God calls you a bum!" would have to be something pretty special for me to believe that my initial read of the "context" of his statement isn't right on. Call me crazy, but I highly doubt he's supportive of the idea of mom making the dough while daddy rolls it (the dough, not the . . .).

And I'd add that most here are likely ignoring him. We're laughing our a**es off, but we're ignoring him. I sure as heck could GAF what John Hagee thinks anyway.

I like what George Burns said

in the first (and only good) of the Oh God movies. He was talking about this guy who had to give up pro football and decided to be a preacher: "Ever since then, he's been making a living by preaching teh word. My word. Only my words he ran out of years ago." I know a lot of preachers who make this mistake. Like, "Give me a million dollars, or God will call me home." Stuff like that. Sounds like Hagee's starting to run out of God's Words and is starting to make up his own. If he ever stood for the truth of the Bible, he better shut up and get back to reading it before he embarasses himself worse than he already has.

So why don't they call it mooching when the wife stays home?

This is the explanation I've been looking for

Finally, after a year, I now have an explanation for the overt stand-offishness of the evangelical moms we ran into last year at a church based homeschool arts program. If Hagee is the extreme, you just know there are others along that continuum, but not as far out. He's just the loud, uh...rotund, tip of the ice burg.

Pack a cooler. Maybe one of those wheely jobs.

I started a war with this on a yahoo board

Boy did this piss off the evangelical homeschoolers! I did, however gain much needed insight from one of them as to their heightened standoffishness. I don't know if anyone here is interested, or has much contact with that population, but I'd be glad to pass it on.

1Ti 5:8) But if anyone does

1Ti 5:8) But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially his family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an infidel.

Come on, if you read even a couple of verses in this passage it clearly is intended to point out that as Christians you are responsible and accountable to helping and providing for your immediate family. One can even debate that the definition of providing does not include self destructive immediate family (siblings etc..) after they clearly aren't taking action to help themselves as well. Anyway, this has nothing to do with the means of a career or work or whatever it is that your family chooses to do to make provision, and it is a good general principle that we are responsible for making sure our family is taken care of. The great thing about the bible is that the general truths are timeless and hold up regardless of our place in history, with that said there are clearly cultural changes that one must take into account, Hagee is stuck somewhere in the 50's and 60's and is violating a multitude of scripture himself just in this kind of ignorant statement. Last point, who says making sure the household and kids are well taken care of isn't "providing" for one's family. I think it is the purest form of "providing" for the family, so the role of SAHD actually is an exemplary example of what 1 Timothy is talking about. I am a believer and it saddens me to see the damage these Waco's do to the beauty of God's word and what Christ intended. Weather you believe or not, please don't let jerks like this taint your view of the Christian faith

See ya and have fun!
