I know, long title to this post, but it's true. Every time the media attacks Palin's ability to be a fit mother, they attack OUR ability to be good fathers and especially us as stay at home dads. Please check out my blog post about Palin and the attacks on her motherhood on my blog, Hail 2 Pitt

Would love to see your comments in my blog, and on this forum...

Cheers,
Caleb

The Obama campaign has said that they would fire anyone on their staff who speaks out against Palin's family. I don't think it's fair to cherry pick "liberal" pundits and blogs as a reason to choose one candidate over another.

You might as well base your decision on the insulting Fox News "Terrorist Fist Jab" or the multiple direct attacks on Obama's character from the McCain campaign, such as their scorn for community organizers and their poison-the-well commercials about him being acquainted with a professor who was a member of the Weather Underground in the 60s.

Perhaps you are closing your eyes to the double standard that conservatives like O'Riley can condemn the parents of Britney Spears' pregnant sister, but then completely argue the opposite point when it suits their political agenda.

Has Obama said a thing about Palin's family? No. Should he? No. Is he a better parent? No. Is he running a campaign focused on his being a good father? No. While Palin gets away with her bulldog snark, Obama lays out real solutions to real problems. You didn't see the victimized Palin lay out any answers in her speech the other night.

You can see how this issue paints the Obama campaign in a corner. He can't control the media and the blogosphere, and yet swing voters are changing their minds based on public sexism that, frankly, could easily be on the conservative foot if it were Hillary who had a teenage pregnant daughter and an infant with special needs. Can you imagine?

Horseshit

Please don't put associate me with Sarah Palin or try and make out that a criticism of her by some blogger is an attack on women. motherhood or Dads by the "liberal media". Personally I imagine she is a great mother but I hope she isn't really planning on letting her daughter get married at 17.

Please don't turn this site into a forum for your rants or post just to pimp your blog.
I am going to suggest to Mike that policy be changed to stop people from linking their blogs in their sigs. You can put a link to your blog /website on your account page.

Whoa!

I don't see what Pitt posted as a rant- just because you don't agree doesn't qualify something as a rant. I also disagree with the suggestion that folks shouldn't have their blog or their mom's blog or whatever in their signature.

Well...

I'll comment briefly here.

I don't feel they are attacking my ability to be a good father at all.

While I don't support McCain (and REALLY!!!) don't support his choice for VP, in essence, she has answered to a call for duty of her country. I can't argue with that. While she could have said "no", for the reasons of putting "family first", she didn't. And everybody who isn't Sarah Palin will define what is good and right and if Sarah Palin has a strong enough family network to possibly endure the next 4 to 8 years. That is up to Sarah Palin and her family to decide. Not you and me. You can go and make it mean what you want and create upset in your life about it. What gets me about Sarah Palin is that she has to ask questions like "what exactly does the Vice President do?" (Besides, she will have the Republican party pay for much of the care.) It scares me to think of her as the second most powerful person to the White House. It also scares me to watch the Republican biased political news "experts" continually contradict themselves as the Daily Show points out so well...

But, I don't mean to get off topic Caleb, sorry...

No, it doesn't attack my ability as an at-home dad that she chooses country over family.

Here's why I disagree...

Todd Palin is not, nor sounds like he will be, a SAHD. If he was and people were saying that Palin's job is home, I would be more likely to be defending Mr. Palin. (From that POV only, as I am a Democrat...and a Christian....blows peoples minds) My question is who is watching the children? The older kids? A nanny? Because if it isn't one of the parents then please tell me how it is any worse than the "liberal elite" who have their kids in daycare (no offense intended, just making a point).

And again, the reason kids are brought up here is that they were made an issue by the Republicans. The Obamas have their kids in school, and I have no idea who takes care of them when Michelle and Barack are away. So it's not that I believe that the Democrats have the Cleavers.

Whoever is in charge it actually can't be Todd and Sarah that often. It just can't not when Sarah is flying all over God's green earth to campaign. And is Todd coming with her?

So no I don't think attacking SP hurts us. Attacking SAHDs and SAHMs hurts us. Ironically enough being a SAHD benefits us with many conservatives (my church is very conservative and very supportive) b/c we have a parent in the home (ignore Hagee, it's just easier) and with liberals b/c mom gets to have a career and we're breaking stereotypes.

Wow...look at me being all wordy.

Diffuse this right now...

Whether or not Palin is any of the things people are talking about (good, bad, or indifferent) I want to be the first to point out the MILF factor.

I'm just sayin'....

Aye, there's nary an animal alive that can outrun a greased scotsman...

SAHD perspective

Yeah, it would be nice if somebody in the media questioned why Todd isn't staying at home to raise the kids; especially when they mention him taking a leave of absence at work due to Sarah's political career, etc. But, of course, we should be used to that lack as we are in our daily routines as SAHDs. The last people to ask about Todd in a SAHD role would be the conservatives, but I'd at least expect the liberals to be thinking about it as an option. It's all politics though. They don't need to make Todd look good or bad; they need to focus on Sarah. Besides, if some liberal blogger asked why Todd wasn't staying at home with the kids, then the GOP backers would wonder why he would do something like that and condemn himself to Hell :-)

Yes, I believe there are some small ways that people may question her parenting choices. I believe this not because children of politicians (or parenting skills) should be scrutinized, but because Sarah and the GOP have chosen to throw them into the fray. The questions shouldn't pertain to her ability to have a career and raise a family, but what does it say about her judgment when she mixes her children's' lives into the middle of a campaign. It would have been one thing to say 'hey, my daughter is underage and pregnant, please leave her alone in privacy.' But it is another to shout it out and use it as a political tool to bash the opponent's supporters. The last thing that poor girl needs is to be on stage; and to fly her boyfriend (future husband?) to the convention and parade them around so everyone could take pictures was pretty tacky.

Serect Service

I question Palin's humaity. I mean I wouldn't give my private life up to the public to take an office like the VP at at time where my place acctualy is withmy family. That is the hypocracy, family first but I'm off to be VP.

If elected, I'm sure she will tour schools and talk about abstanance, and be another Condi who the Right will have to rpop up as an actual diplomat. The Sate of Sibera in the Easter Federation boarders Alaska as does the mysterious nation of Canada. I hav't heard Palin say anything bout growing US Canadian tenstions, or the fact that they are our biggest trade partner. And Jon Stweart was right, anyone with Google could have given that speach. But who will watch her kids while her husband make the Pails right why the Secret Service.

Iwill add that TeddyRoosevelt sent his kids to public shool in DC while he was prez.

Be Seeing You.

Interesting...

I find it interesting that people feel they have a right to question how Sarah and Todd raise their families but still get offended when people do it to them. Hmmmmmmm...curious. My point here...my family is far from perfect, as I know each and every family represented in here is. Let's let Sarah and Todd raise their family how they think is fit. Go ahead and call Sarah to task on issues that are a part of her potential job. Leave her alone for her choices for her family...just as we expect people to leave us alone for the choices for ours. Oh, and before anyone assumes I'm a Republican from this posting, I'm still deciding who I'm voting for. Both candidates have things about what they stand for that I completely agree with and both sides have things about what they stand for that I don't.
