Not to offend those who don't have the wherewithal to not click through a link they don't agree with...

To prove to some of you that I don't accept any of the BS from EITHER side, I follow up my post from the other day about the attacks on Palin being a bad mother with one today titled:

Republicans can be A** H**** too!

It's about the bogosity of the whole Pig/Lipstick fiasco and I think my liberal readers will see I am not blinded by my politics when it comes stupid personal attacks or stupid perceived attacks and media manipulation.

FYI, if you're not interested in the issue or don't like reading other peoples blogs or thoughts, just don't follow the link above. Not a problem. if you want to discuss, post here and/or comment on my blog.

Cheers,
PittCaleb

blog pimping

I'm not going to give you the click.
If you are going to continue to use ahd.org to pimp your personal sites you could at least click the "donate" button. It's on the top right...

Here is an example of where 8 years of Bush has taken America..
U.S. May Be Vulnerable to Sovereign Funds NYT
If Bush hadn't spent the last eight years digging the US into debt there might be a reason to vote Republican but he has screwed up the economy and there is nothing to show for it - at least a democrat might have spent some of that cash on health or education...

clicking through

fyi, I have no way to monetize my blog, just for the record.

I thought about using Google AdWords (or is it AdSense?) but I run an AdBlocker on my fireFox install, so I felt it would be too 2-faced of me to try to get money from people seeing and clicking ads when I refuse to look at them myself.

Cheers,
PittCaleb

Missing the point

I don't care whether you are making money or not...
It is bad form to post on any forum with "hey look at my blog..."
At most of the sites I read it is against guidelines and would earn a ban.

two points

1) I don't consider it bad form to mention or link to your blog. I have mine linked in my signature. Of course, mine isn't really a blog where I take on political issues or other stuff. I just write on occasion about stuff in my life: kids, baseball, music, TV shows, etc. Why is it such a big deal if people want to point us to their sites? The whole point of the Internet is links, to discover new information that you might not know about or seek out otherwise. If you don't want to click on it, that's your prerogative.

2) The whole "pigs and lipstick" thing is yet another ridiculous diversion from real issues, and evidence that candidates of all types too easily fall into cliches and idiot talk to appease the masses. C'mon, Barack: do better than this!

@dbrigham

What specifically irritated me here is PittCaleb posting a new topic on this forum that consists of nothing more than "Hey look at what I posted on my blog".
And doing it more than once...
A bit different from posting actual content and then including a link at the bottom of your post.
As far as the links in sigs go I am not a fan, one link and a line is fair enough I suppose (and lets face it only I seem to care about any of this) but when people have 3 links or their sig is 4 lines long it gets distracting, especially on a long thread.

Official guidance

Here's my official position on the blog linking:

1) Links to a blog that is generally parenting related are fine in your signature and/or profile.

2) If you have some thoughts to share, post those thoughts, not a link to the thoughts.

3) If you don't own the thoughts, cite them accordingly (i.e. a reasonable-length excerpt with credit and/or a link where credit is due).

I have no need to censor the mention of other (relevant) sites. I am happy to support other dad sites (see #1 above). What I do not like is people using the forums as a place to promote their ventures, be it blogs, get-rich-quick schemes, sales of wondrous products, or whatever. There is only one reason for this policy - to prevent the forums from degenerating into a useless mess of promotion and spam. We're not going to take any step in that direction.

If you think of this site as a neighborhood pub, the promotional posts are like someone coming into the pub and yelling "Hey everyone! Come check out my store down the street!". A bit annoying and out of place. Nobody wants to hang out in a place where that's happening all the time. So, they'll be asked to leave so that our friendly patrons can enjoy their beer and conversation in peace.

All of that said, I see no reason to further complain about PittCaleb's post. I'm sure he'll adjust accordingly going forward, I have no further concerns, and it's nice to have him here.
