I know this is of no real consequence but . . .

We were listening to Jimi Hendrix this morning and Little Wing came on and Madeline sang for the first time without parroting one of her parents. It made me happy.

Rock on

DD graduated from Raffi and the Wiggles and was belting out "Hot Blooded" in the car around 4. Our current thing is broadway tracks from Wicked and Les Mis.

My 4 Year Old

The wife and I went on a date night and saw the musical Mamma Mia in the movies theater. I loved it so had to get the sound track. I guess you know you've listened to it a lot when you're kids ask for specific songs by name, and the 4 year old sings along with the track he asks for. LOL!

Foreigner

Ha! I used to belt that out when I was a kid, even though I didn't quite get the lyrics right. My first vinyl single was "Urgent!"

The Raconteurs...

Lately I've been spinning the new Raconteurs album. I was doing so a couple days ago while tending to my kitchen duties, and along came the kids. My four year old Zach commenced to dancing and singing, more like kicking and screaming, while two year old sister Marina did her best to keep up. They were enjoying the music in a way I couldn't understand. When they're older, I wonder how much of "Dads ole' crazy sh#!", if any, that they'll truly enjoy.

Radio King

My daughter loves to sing along to Jeff Tweedy's "Radio King" from a bootleg "Living Room Benefit Concert"he did a couple years ago. It's not like it has any cool melodies or hooks or anything. It was a song he played with former band Uncle Tupelo. When I first heard her sing along in the back seat it brought a huge smile to my face. When the song was over, she said, "Play that one again, Daddy." Sure thing, darlin!

My Queen/Arcade Fire loving 4yo son

About 5 months ago, my son in the midst of playing legos or something burst out singing 'We are the Champions' by Queen. I stopped what I was doing in stunned shock. He now also often will sing the chorus of 'No Cars Go' by Arcade Fire. My 8yo daughter could care less about rock music-so it burst my heart with joy to hear my son belting out some rock'n'roll! such a proud papa...
