Description

Some of the best smelling play dough your kids will ever play with.

Ingredients

  • 2 1⁄2 c flour
  • 1 c salt
  • 2 pk unsweetened kool-aid (color and flavor of the kool-aid determines the color and scent of the play dough)
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 2 c boiling water

Instructions

Mix flour and salt together and then mix in everything else adding the water to the dry ingredients (no need to cook this stuff). Knead until well mixed, add extra flour if sticky.

I have not personally made this. However my mom has made tons and tons after 30 years in child care and now makes Ethans play dough for him. It turns out just as good as the store bought stuff and better. The color depends on the color of the kool-aid you use and this will also determine what it smells like and boy does it smell good. 100% safe to eat The only drawback is that it can make your hands feel a little gritty but this is just because of the salt and clears right up once you wash your hands.

I've heard of this recipe, but with a pinch of cream of tartar?

Funny you should post on this. I was planning to make this recipe tomorrow, however my list of ingredients calls for something called cream of tartar. It's said that this will prolong the life of the playdough. It better because a small jar of the stuff costs $6.

The "official" play dough recipe of my kids' preschool:

1 cup flour
1 cup water
½ cup salt
1 Tbsp cream of tartar
1 Tbsp oil
food coloring

Mix ingredients together over medium-low heat until it reaches a soft consistency. Remove from heat. Cool on wax paper. Store in a ziplock bag.

We've made several batches and like the end product. If you're lucky you live near a grocery store like Whole Foods that sells cream of tartar in bulk so you can buy a couple tablespoons at the time (for much less than $6/jar).

Yeah I think this one called

Yeah I think this one called for something called Alum or something like that. But she said she never puts it in. This does store wonderfully in ziplock bags.

Santiago you should try it with the kool-aid. Makes coloring of the product really easy and the smell is great.
