Congress Park/Denver Dad looking for other Dads

Note: I received this as an "anonymous question", but it doesn't really make sense for it to be anonymous....so I'm putting it here.

Hi,

I am a new father, to a 3 month old named Nora. I am staying at home (and working remotely via computer 20 hrs/wk) with her while mom (who is a resident at the Univ. of CO) is quite busy. I am looking for Dads to get out and stay active, share tips/tricks, and even trade occasional care. I live at 11th and York - close to Cheesman Park, the Botanic Gardens & Congress Park.

Is Denver Dad a network that may have some opportunities for me and the lil' one? Are you aware of any other Dads in my neighborhood or other resources to help me find other Dads?

Thanks,

Jake

Welcome

Hey Jake welcome and register here. As far as I know, the Denver Dads playgroup on this site disbanded about a year ago unless DB knows different. I am in Castle Rock, kind of far south to network with 3 bucks and change for a gallon. Other Denver Dads are here now and then so just keep checking in and somebody may respond.
In the mean time, on nice days hang for a while at the zoo, its possible to meet like minded people there. It is the one place I found to work the best for networking it if you can get past walking up to other men and saying "so, you also a stay at home dad?" They will either run from or relate to you.
Good luck and get out and work it with Nora, things will eventually happen with both moms and dads who are the PCP, but be patient, things will not happen fast.

Welcome from the north side

I haven't found an organized group of at-home-dads specifically, but instead found them individually through my social network of my kids' activities. My boys play ice hockey & my daughter does gymnastics so aside from the time I spend there networking, I barely have time to come on here & chat you guys up, let alone arrange play dates.

I'm in Broomfield on the north end of town & I met 3 S@HDs @ the park (though it was back in the summer) in my 2nd week back in Colorado, mainly due to my willingness to walk up to any man (who was sans wife but with children) & ask him. Sooner or later, you'll either meet someone who is a S@HD or someone will know someone who is & you can work an introduction that way. You're in an area that should have a good base or at least have some nearby. When you meet them, tell them about this site & find out if they have a group or start organizing your own group. One thing about Coloradans that I've found is that they are more accepting of us than most. Most of the women I've met at parks/playgrounds & parking lots have been very positive. Not ALL of them, but more here than in L.A. so just be yourself.

MileHiDad had it right....be PATIENT!!! Just like with the kids, this is a marathon, not a sprint & it will take some time. In the meantime, come here to vent with the rest of us. It isn't a beer with your bro's, but some days it's the only thing that keeps me sane; knowing I'm not alone.

Welcome!

Howdy!

Jake,

There is a local group, Denver_Dads(at)yahoo(dot)com. It is, however, fairly widespread. There are usually events down south near Parker and Highlands Ranch on Fridays. Also, there are lees reliable events up north earlier in the week. Check Yahoo Groups to find Denver_Dads, but be sure to use the one WITH the underscore. The one with out it is the defunct one.

If you feel like trekking a way, head out to the Butterfly Pavillion tomorrow. I'm planning to bring two of my boys there at around 10:00.

Wow, I live a block away from you

Greetings Jake,

I'm at 12th and Josephine. I've been a SAHD for 6 years. I have found no organized group in this neighborhood. As stated above, I have found that Denverites are very accepting of us dads.

I don't have time now to type much. If you want to talk more you can e-mail at abwidmann@comcast.net

Denver Dads is Still kickin'

We had a great Dad's Night Out this month, and the south side guys still get together every Friday. One of the reasons people might have thought that DD had folded was because all of my kids are in school now, so I have not been getting to athomedad.org as much as I used to and blabbing about stuff (when are these empty days when the kids are all in school going to show up?), BUT I have every bit of faith that the south side guys (they all have little ones) will continue on, and this summer, when everyone gets out of school, we are going to have a tour around Denver trying to get a Central group going, and visiting all the Northsiders groups we can!!

Washington Park Area Dad

I've got a 3 yr old daughter that I stay home with and would be up for meeting people in similar situations--either for a kids "playdate" or beers etc. in the metro area.  I don't follow premier soccer league, but I do love a good Guinness and if someone could please explain cricket to me...any other Dad-type groups out there in metro Denver?

Thanks,

Brian

Castle Rock

I'm just going to tag this on here, as I don't have time to find the right spot. Sorry.

I'm (age 32) in Castle Rock, taking care of Linus (15 mo.). If anyone wants to get together in the Rock, I'm game for just about anything that will get me out of the house.

What fun it must be for the

What fun it must be for the SAHDs to have a platform where they can interact and help each other out!! With so may stay home dads these days, I am sure they will find forums like this very helpful to relax from the monotony of “baby-sitting” and other “baby-related” chores!! Really enjoyed hanging around here and will get a couple of my friends who are looking for a place like this to get to know other SAHDs!!
