Hi All,
I've gotten this warning/ safety message twice already and was wondering if anyone else has heard about it? Does anyone know if this is relevant for the candy sold in U.S. Costco?:

HALLOWEEN CANDY RECALLED

There is a new warning put out by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency....
Sherwood brand Pirate's Gold Milk Chocolate coins are being recalled due to the fact that they contain Melamine, the ingredient in milk product that has caused many infant (and dog) deaths in china. These candies are sold at Costco, as well as many bulk and dollar stores. please make sure to check your childrens halloween candy and DO NOT LET THEM EAT THE PIRATE COINS (you know the ones wrapped in the shiny gold foil) and please let other parents know about this!

(you can verify this on snopes: http://www.snopes. com/food/ warnings/ coinsasp)

Melamine

I'm in Canada, and yes its the truth. Sounds like anything with milk, milk product, powdered milk and made in China is suspect. At this point I don't have much trust in any food product from there. Going to be a good excuse to do a big cull of the candy haul this year..... :-)

Cdn Tim

I'm giving out Play-Doh this year

I bought it at Costco about a month ago and unlike candy ( not form China ) it is still here to be distributed to all the little ghosts and goblins.

Eggs too

Just saw that Chinese eggs were found to contain melanine too.

simply put...

Gone are the days when my parents had to take my candy haul to the local ER and check for razor blades in the apples and syringes that were wrapped up like Slo-pokes. My position is and always will be this. My child doesn't need all of that candy anyway, so I'm the official "tester" and what I deem unneccessary or just plain "nasty" just disappears in the trash. As with anything else that we concern ourselves on a daily basis, common sense should rule and keep a wary eye on your kid's candy bag, but don't get swept up in hysteria over mysterious recalls.
