Is it the end of my at home era? We'll see. Probably yes.

I've been at home with super kids, now 6(f) and 4(m) since 1'st was born. I have lived through everything that I have read about here. We are one.

Now, the micro and macro economics of our collective life in 2008 has found us. A painful surprise - to say the least. But, she works in the financial "industry" so we both knew that anything might happen. Wow. Not layed off yet, but the writing is on the wall.

Me? Applying for work. I can get a good job, but not with the same income. Wow. Like my wife, I have the skills, credentials, and experience to earn her income, but not for a couple of years. The resume "gap" of 6+ years proves tough, especially now.

I'm not looking for sympathy because I know that others are MUCH worse off, and because everything works out. Just stressing.

That sucks.

What a way to start off the holidays. Sorry to hear about that. Good luck on the job hunt.

It ain't over til it's over.....

We thought we were going to be going through the same thing about 4 months ago, but it (thankfully) didn't happen. We had had 2 bad quarters back to back and were barely 25% to quota for the year. Fortunately, the company looked at everyone and saw it for what it was, a national problem, not a personal lack of performance. They cut out some big expenses, trips, conventions, etc. and did so to avoid letting people go. But we were way scared for awhile there. My wife's best year was about triple my best so if the unthinkable had happened, it would have been hard, but she would have been the one staying in the workplace instead of me returning to it.

Good luck. We'll be pulling for her and you.

Making it look difficult. Living the dream.

We might be in the same

We might be in the same boat. My wife also works in the financial industry - and her job is safe... for now.
The conversations has begun and I'll be looking for employment soon.

Hmmmm, problem is I'm a Realtor (part timing since our son was born 15 months ago) - and the thought about diggin back in that full time with the market isn't a rosie thought.

I'm not whining either, just a matter of fact statement. I've been very fortunate to be able to stay at home with my son.
