I am happy to let you know that we have settled on the basic "infrastructure" of the convention.  All of the dads in Omaha and the convention planning committee feel that we've put together the best package of hotel, meeting space, and food/beverage.  The convention is being held this year in Omaha on the weekend of October 10, 2009.

Hotel:  Our main hotel will be the Courtyard by Marriott in Downtown Omaha.  The hotel is within walking distance to our meeting and just a block from the "Old Market" district.  The Old Market features plenty of bars, restaurants, and tourist attractions.  It is only a few minutes from the airport and major interstates.  Our group rate is $109 for a room with two double beds.  This rate includes the following FREE:  On-Site Parking, Airport/Downtown Shuttle, Breakfast for 2 daily, and a hospitality/party room.  In our dealings with the Omaha Convention and Visitors Bureau www.visitomaha.com, we were told this is the best deal a group has received in a long time.

Click on the following link to make reservations http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/OMACY?groupCode=AHDAHDB&app=resvlink&fromDate=10/8/09&toDate=10/11/09

You can also call 1-800-204-9388 Group Code AHDAHDB

ONE MAIN NOTE:  This hotel is located right across the street from the Qwest Center Arena, home to many major concerts and sporting events.  I encourage everyone to reserve their room as soon as possible.  If a concert or sporting event is announced for our weekend, this hotel will fill up quickly.  We will have trouble getting extra rooms if this happens.  If we can get as many dads to reserve as early as possible, we can know if we need to increase our room numbers. Other hotels in the downtown area will fill up quickly also, leaving some dads SOL by waiting until the last minute.

We are also planning on offering a seperate hotel for dads who plan on traveling with their families.  We will update the convention website and I will post an announcement when we have all of the reservation details available.  It is a Holiday Inn with an indoor water park located just North of downtown.

Meeting Space:  The Durham Museum (http://www.durhammuseum.org/) will be our home for our convention program.  I had never been to this place, but I was very impressed when we visited.  It is the old Union Pacific Railroad depot and is really cool.  There is plenty of meeting space with flexible smaller rooms to use for breakouts.  Important:  This contract has been signed and paid for, so this event WILL take place (whether we have 1 dad or 100 dads).

Saturday Night Dinner:  Will be held at the Upstream Brewery (http://www.upstreambrewing.com/Market-PartyRoom.aspx).   Great beer, great food, and a location only a few blocks from the hotel.  Upstream is a favorite site for our local guys for our Dads Night Out.

Our convention site is up and running at www.athomedadconvention.com and please use this thread if you are looking for another dad to share a room.

Thanks to all the local Omaha dads who worked very hard putting these things together.  We have a number of guys who are working very hard to make this a successful convention.  We just need you guys to start making plans to come to Omaha and enjoy this event with us.

Roommate needed

I'll be booking a room soon and will welcome a roommate who likes beer, is only mildly obnoxious (sorry Liam) and is willing to pay half the room rate (i.e. only $55/night!).

Roommate As Well

I have already secured the additional suite that we have been given by the Courtyard and would ideally love to have a roommate as well.  So there are now two rooms that will be or are secured at the convention hotel that if you jump on the wagon, you are able to quickly save yourself some money on hotel costs.  First come first serve on roommates I am sure.

Dumped

Looks like Al dumped me.  He didn't tell me he was looking for a new roommate.   Laughing

Yes, I will be at the convention and plan to arrive on Thursday this time.  I'm up for a new roomie.  Do you want to book the room?  And I'll reimburse you.

No, you are not severely obnoxious.  People don't know you like I know you.

Don't tell Liam...

Uh, I hope Liam isn't reading this post yet...he'll be pretty upset, Hogan.  Better turn off the ringer on your cell.

Al - as long as you don't snore, I'll share with you...I've already got a room booked.  Since I've got a plane ticket to buy too this year, I'd love to keep my other expenses down...

- Andy

Hogan dumped me first!

Hey Hogan, I thought you and Liam already decided to room together? Well, I guess I got that wrong, sorry. Either way, I really don't care, but if you are all going to fight over me I think I'm going to start to feel pretty.

Registration

The convention website registration page is down.  What is the cost of the convention?  My parents live in Omaha, so I would stay with them versus in a hotel.  It's great, because my father retired from Union Pacific last year.  Thanks!

Registration

We hope to have registration and all costs nailed down by June 1st.  We are working to find sponsors and donations, which will alter the costs.  We are giving companies and organizations until mid-May and then we can get the numbers hammered out.  I'll let everyone know when we have the registration forms ready.

Glad you'll be able to make it.  Look forward to seeing all the at home dads again!

Threesome In Omaha

No need to start feeling pretty Al.  Liam gave me an offer I couldn't refuse.  A threesome with Doug and something about a rubber chicken.

roommate

I am going to be coming to the convention this year (for the first time)  I currently have reservations @ the Econolodge but have been told that it may not be the best accomedations.  I just don't want to spend $100 on myself for a room.  So if anyone is still looking for a roommate for the convention I can cancel my current reservations.  Thanks.

Roommate Wanted

Hey Chad,

I am still looking for a roommate to join me in the hospitality suite.  The rate for the suite is the same however, it only comes with a King bed although the Courtyard advised that they would make sure that a rollaway would be available for the room.  The other thing to be aware of is that being in the hospitality suite we are the last ones to go to sleep each night.  The suite needs to remain open for as long as possible for the dads who are having fun just hanging out.

If this sounds acceptable to you, please let me know.

Thanks,

Robb

Rooms Available

I heard from one of the KCdads that the hotel told him that the hotel was booked full.  This is NOT the case.  We still have rooms available in our block as of 8/17.  Make sure to use our link in the travel/hotel section of www.athomedadconvention.com or let them know that you are with the at home dads convention discount block.  There are a number of events going on in downtown Omaha on the weekend of Oct 10.  I would encourage everyone who is coming to get their reservations made ASAP, if you haven't already.  Don't procrastinate and end up being left out.

hospitality suite

Robb,

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you.  How late do y'all usually stay up until?

Thanks,

Chad

Chad taken care of

I think we got Chad taken care of....far away from the mayhem of the Tavill Hospitality Suite.  Robb's bringing some sort of frozen drink mixer type of thing, so hide the women and children.

If you have to ask

If you have to ask Chad....You might not want to stay in the hospitality room :) Some of us (without naming any names) are night owls.

Hey Chad

It is all good my friend.  We have things already set up for you with one of the other dads here in Omaha.  It should be a good time.  Looking forward to meeting you here in Omaha in about five weeks.
