Do you have a part time job?

I am pretty new to the site but in reading some of the posts, I saw that some of you work part time. I am very curious as to what type of jobs you are working, how old your kids are (or were when you started), how stressful or stress relieving it was, and how difficult it was to get the job? I have been a SaHD for a little over a year and we just had our 2nd child. I have always been a goal oriented type person and wonder if there is a PTJ that I could get that would help keep me someone sane. Thanks in advance.

always worked part time

I have always had some sort of part time work during the 9+ years I've been at this.  At first, it was needed $ to live this lifestyle.  It still is needed as a means of saving and to feed my addiction to sports.  There have been times where I have worked over 30 hours a week on top of being a SAHD.  Not something I would recommend, but you have to do what you have to do to help support the family.

For the full nine years I have cleaned apartment complexes....vaccuum, windows, cobwebs, etc.  For the most part about 10-14 hours a week.  Pays well if you get stuff done and on time.  Not the easiest job in the Nebraska summer in non-air conditioned hallways or trudging between buildings in the ice and snow.

I've also delivered for a local italian restaurant for about 5 years...great money and not a bad job if you are in the right delivery area.  Also have worked a little retail in a golf shop and outdoor store.

It has never been tough to find a job.  I actually get offers quite a bit when people find out that I've done a cleaning job for so long along with SAHD.

Something Flexible

I am currently working as a server at a sports bar and as a youth sports official.  The waiter gig is really nice because I only work two days a weeks (Sunday and Monday nights) and I can take off work whenever I need to.  I don't work holidays, don't work days after holidays and if something that comes up where I need a day off and I did not request it off, some other server who needs money for drugs, booze or the strip club will pick-up m shift.

I also referee soccer and volleyball.  The games are at night after my wife gets home from work or on the weekend.  I will usually pick-up 2-3 games a week and they pay anywhere from $20 (younger kids) to $50 (adults) a game.  What's nice about refereeing soccer or volleyball is that if my kid plays these sports and travels to tournaments when she is older, I can referee at the tournament.  I enjoy it and it will help ofset the cost of the travel.

My wife asked me if I had signed up for the 401k yet. I told her I hadn't. She asked me why and I told her I couldn't run that far.

SAT prep

If you can teach, the market is strong for at-home instruction, be it SAT prep, physics, languages, etc.  In a good month, I can clear a grand just working Saturdays.  Check out wyzant.com.

My Job

I work part time as the assistant to the outreach and arts director at my church.  This is a fancy way of saying I do all the crapy jobs nobody else wants to do.   Tongue out

"Maintenance Man" at a

"Maintenance Man" at a nearby nursing home (2nd shift).  My baby is 1 yrs old and I've been working there 3 months before she was born.  It's actually a welcome "break" to get out of the house most times.

My Work

I work part-time at a local sporting goods store and do personal training part-time.  My kids are 5 and 4 and both of these positions have very flexible schedules just in case of sickness, field-trips, etc.  Just think about a hobby you love to do and look for or create a job from it.  Hope this helps!

SAHD working part-time

I work early mornings, 4-8 doing shipping and receiving for retail. I sleep from 9 till 2 and work about

4 days a week. I try and take my time so as I am not tired while staying with my 18 month old daughter.

I started before my daughter was born but told them I was going to be a SAHD. Hope this helps!
