My daughter and her crying issues

It's 3:00 a.m. and I'm just starting to drift off to sleep.  Then I hear it, the crying.  I go into my 3 year old daughter's room and she seems to still be asleep.  I tell her everything is okay, cover her back up, and give her back her stuffed animal.  All is quiet for about 20 mins, and then it all starts again.  If I don't go into her room, either my wife will finally wakes up and wonders what is going on, or my daughter will come in the room.  Here is the strange, sometimes creepy part.  If it comes down to her getting out of bed and coming into our bedroom, I ask her what is wrong.  The usual response is incoherent.  Sometimes she'll say something off the wall like, "you gonna play with me?" or "I put it on the floor."  It's like a scary movie or something.  That is if I can even understand what she is saying at all.  This makes me think she's sleepwalking and maybe even sleepcrying, if there even is such a thing.  Has anyone else encourtered anything like this?  Is there anything I can do?  Am I just supposed to tough it out?  It has happened at least once or twice a week for the past year or so.  Any help would be appreciated.

ask

my initial thought is it is an attention thing but if you are worried, you might talk to your pediatrian. He/she may say it is normal or may want to do some sleep studies on her. I had a cousin who would sleep walk and tried to walk through a glass sliding door. Never hurts to ask the professionals.

sounds like...

It sounds like from what you said about the strange things that come out of her mouth when she gets up that she may have a sleepwalking issue.  I had a roommate in college that would sleepwalk and do strange things like that.  As for the crying issue I'm not much help.  I had the same problem with my 10 year old daughter when she was 3-4.  She just seemed terrified to go to sleep.  It was a real struggle around our house for about a year...but when she turned about 4 1/2 it seemed to just go away.  Never did figure out why she was doing that.  Good Luck.
