Fathers day gift ideas?

A reporter recently contacted me wanting to hear "what you think are the more appropriate Father's Day gift ideas for the modern-day Dad."

Many stores still hawk ties, golf clubs, tools to putter in the workshop with, and other gifts that reflect the Ward Cleaver image of a Dad who's only home for dinner and spends weekends mowing the lawn or playing golf.

What would you like for Fathers' Day?

relaxation

Of course I want to spend the day itself with my family but sleeping in and a gift certificate for a massage sounds pretty good.

hmmm

What I'd really like is unprintable, so I'll just say a Netbook.

On a more serious note, I'd say a large block of free time is more valuable than gold to me these days.

Just ask me

I've been disgusted with ties and useless junk on fathers day, birthdays, and christmas. Is it the pressure upon the giver to do something nice? I think so.

This year my wife asked me.

I told her.

My favorite breakfast was spectacular (at home), and the super dooper lense for my telescope was a week late thanks to the usps.

She wanted to take me out for brunch at $30 a head. Not necessary.

I was  relieved of baby duty for the day also. That was really nice.

Am I alone here? Anybody agree with just ask me?

Cheers! Jeff
