Injury Prevention. Wondering if the dads have done anything on this subject. Being a stay at home dad on a day to day basis takes a toll sometimes on the body. Wondering if the dads have done anything to try and prevent injuries. Not necessarily interested in their own injuries, just on the prevention side of the issue.
Good Body Mechanics & Ask For Help
I'm 6'6", 185 and I had back surgery in 1993 so I had to be extra careful picking the kids up as well as performing other daily chores like mopping, vaccumming etc.. Which meant that I had to concentrate and be more conscious about my body mechanics.
Proper knee bending when picking things or kids up. I also knelt down to make the bed.
No twisting when reaching for something.
Used a ladder or stool instead of stretching to reach for an item.
If I felt pain while doing a chore, I would stop even if I only got half of what I was doing done.
I didn't over schedule. I knew my limitations. I learned to pace myself.
Asked for help. I had no problem letting other people adopt my kids for a few hours or a day. Or clean the house, cook a meal, go to the grocery store....etc.
BTW, if anyone ever asks you if you need help. Say YES! Then give them a list. People want to help or they wouldn't ask and can't if you don't tell them what you need.
Staying thin also helped me.
