Any hunters in this bunch?  The Georgia archery season opens in less than 2 weeks, and I'm fired up!  My bow is tuned and I'm ready!  My kids love "deer steak" and I'm anxious to put some more in the freezer!

Mystified

As a Brit (and not a member of the aristocracy), I find the whole hunting thing a little mystifying, although I have to admit, strangley appealing. As far as I know, virtually everything you could call 'hunting' over here is banned. No guns, obviously, and I'm not even sure you can use a bow and arrow in a public place (something to do with Henry the Eighth wanting to keep the deer for himself. Along with the women/churches). However, there is a by-law in the city of Chester that it's legal to shoot a Welshman if you see him within the city walls after midnight. But you have to use a crossbow, which seems fair enough.

I am a gun hunter my self,

I am a gun hunter my self, and am looking forward to teach my boys.  I already have them in the woods in the off season and my 7 year old has started to recognize trails and both are learning how to walk in the woods.  One of the things I am looking forward to about being  a stay at home dad is that the second school is over we can head for the woods, when I was growing up we had to wait for dad to get off work and not head out until some time Fri night, or miss a week end because he had ti work

A slow season...

This was a rough year for getting in the woods for me.  I tend to bowhunt only, but shot the first fat doe that walked out and used my .270.   This economy and limited ops made freezer meat a priority.  It is harder than I realized it would be to get away and hunt, and both the weather and moon have not been a help.  Maybe next year will be better.  We have meat, though, and it's fine.

The downside is that I have a month of vacation time, but no reason to use it for hunting since I keep my 19 month old daughter full time and work full time from home, too.  I've got to learn to make more time to recharge.

That's funny about the Welshman...I wonder if we have any old laws like that about Yankees down here?  : )

Never appreciated hunting as much as I do now...

I hunted all my life growing up here in Missouri.  Guns, bow, fishing, even some trapping.  I kind of stopped for a while during college, but after having kids I' ve gotten back into it in a big way.  I think mostly because of the quiet!  I look forward to taking my kids on their first hunts here in a couple of years.

New to group

I am new to this group but I am a life long hunter and I am teaching my daughter to hunt as well.

I don't get to hunt all that

I don't get to hunt all that often, but I love restoring WWI and WWII rifles.  In fact, I wanted to see if there were any Charlotte, NC area dads that might be able to get out of the house on Saturday or Sunday for Father's Day and this seemed like as good a place as any to post.  I got permission from the wife to go put holes in some targets and shoot a little skeet. Anyone local want to get together?

hunting

Hunting deer should be done for the meat not the antlers.  I have never seen anyone eat the antlersSurprised

shooting

If only we did not live 1,500 miles apart. It would be great to have a SAHD to go shooting with. -Aaron
