The cafe I've been waiting for just opened

Stumbled across this post on WeeWindyCity blog about a new kid-friendly cafe called FamilyGrounds Cafe. OMG, the cafe I've been waiting for has finally opened! Check it out. They do charge a fee to use their 1500 sq. ft. indoor playspace ($7.95, siblings $3.95, non-crawling infants free with 4.00 purchase) but it's cheaper than other indoor playspaces. They are located on Lincoln just north of Addison and offer free parking.

Thinking about trying out this place for this Thursday's playgroup. Anyone have an objection? We normally try and avoid fee-based places for the weekly playgroup meetings, but sometimes make an exception, especially during the winter months.

This place is great. I have been there 3 teams already this month. It can be pretty crowded in the morning, but clears up after 1.  The big bonus is that they have a free parking lot and, if you don't drive, it is right off the Addison brown line. Also, there are at least 2 attendants on duty in the playroom who help the parents watch the kids. The attendants will sometimes lead a group of kids in painting and other activities.

The one caveat I have is that there is a limit of 90 minutes for the playspace for your child (they put a name tag on the child indicating their entrance time) so don't plan on this being an all afternoon time killer. However, my kid is normally worn out by the 60 minute mark anyway.

I'm headed there next Monday

I'm headed there next Monday for a playdate.  I'll let you know how it goes.  It costs $7.95 which I wouldn't object to during the winter months to avoid too many visits to Garfield, the zoo, and the nature museum.

Another option that worked well on Friday, was bowling.  I met Kevin and Rob at pinstripes in Northfield.  Every weekday from 10 till noon, kids can bowl for $5 and adults are free.  There is free coffee and a fruit buffet.  The group might think of planning a playdate out there during the winter.

Great Place

This place is great but I would recommend calling ahead.  On nasty days the wait can be long.  Went one day and was told I would have to wait an hour.  On the other hand, they did have an area with color supplies, blocks, etc. for kids to use while waiting and they have a good selection of muffins, sandwiches, coffee, and other drinks in the cafe area.
