I stop by this site on occasion to keep up with AHD awareness issues and read tips/articles/advice discussions, but I've never posted. So, I thought I'd register and say "Hello"!

I am actually working full time, and my wife works part time, but we can't afford childcare and she can't take our 1 year old to work with her. So, she stays with me all except for the 3 hours I'm at work in the afternoons when Mom is home. I'm lucky that my job is somewhat flexible, so I can work from home in the mornings, or bring her with me. So I guess technically I'm not a "pure" AHD, but I sure feel like one and face a lot of the same issues.

Since we both work AND take care of the baby, it can feel like neither of us get a break! When she comes home, I have to pass off the baby and rush out the door. So to me, I watched baby all morning and have to cram in my workday in the afternoon, whereas she did her workday in the morning and watched baby all afternoon. So by dinner time, we're both zonked. We are new to the area, so extended family isn't around to help, either.

Anyway, it is great that sites like this exist, and hopefully we can chip away stereotypes and stigma as we go. Keep up the good work!

Welcome!

Glad to see your post and glad to see you working out a solution for raising your child that works for you.

I would encourage you to search for an at-home dad group in your area. Post where you are here if you feel comfortable with that. Taking your daughter to a playgroup with fellow at-home dads and their kids is one great way for you to get a much needed break. And, from someone who also has been in a new place far from family, local at-home dads can become a like a surrogate family.

We're all in this together Brother!
