I 2nd Al's motion to speak up!
In 1994 one at-home dad spoke up, then another, and another…..the list goes on. Hence, in 1995 the birth of the 1st Annual At-Home Dad Convention.
All these at-home dads, despite their busy lives, were pro-active in some shape, form or level. Some at-home dads devoted their time to the daunting task of organizing and coordinating the annual At-Home Dad Convention. Some established websites to expand the at-home dad network. Some led support groups in their local community. Some became PTA/PTO leaders and members. Some allowed the media to write about their at-home dad lifestyle. Some wrote books. Some just attended the convention.
If none of the at-home dads in 1994 had come out of the pantry, the at-home dad community and its support system would not be what it is today.
Today, other at-home dads have stepped forward to keep the cause alive. And like the at-home dads in 1994, their names are not as important as the productive lifestyle they represent and their courage to speak up and be proactive.
Let your voice be heard, be proud of being an at-home dad, and give whatever time you can to promote and support the at-home dad lifestyle.
I’d like to propose a challenge to those at-home dads who have committed to attending next year’s 15th Annual At-Home Dad Convention – invite and bring another at-home dad with you. Let’s set a goal to at least double last year’s attendance.
If you can’t attend the convention for financial reasons, encourage other at-home dads in your community to make the trip to Omaha.
We can all make a difference, one person at a time.
