I have been a SAHD for ten years now. My wife wants to change careers which means I will need to go back to work.
I used to work in video production then web design. After being out for 10 years I feel like those have both left me behind, so if I want to go back to work I think I am going to need some training /education.
So how do you figure out where to start? I don't really feel qualified for anything and I'm feeling a little lost and overwhelmed at this point? I don't know whether it makes more sense to try to get some training in something I have had previous experience or move to something completely new.
career change
After 8 years of being a stay at home, I went back to work. I started taking classes 4 years ago,,, to help keep the gray matter going, It led me to my new carreer. I'm a pastor now. The most difficult? Being a pastor is not a 9-5 job. The wife is now cutting her work schedule and getting to be home room mom etc.
I love my new carreer, but it has been a heck of a reorganization.
It's difficult when I find myself jelous of their trips to the childrens museum etc.
Best of luck.
What do you like to do?
Well, I am still at home and probably will be for a while - but I have the unfair advantage of working from home. I have, however, changed jobs/careers a few times before. Each time I thought about doing something new, I asked myself, "What do I like to do?" Sounds cliché, but I've found that it works.
Good luck & remember to have fun!
