I thought it was good idea... at first. (no such luck)

Generally I think of myself as a smart and creative thinking guy but tonight I proved otherwise.

Tonight My son was calling out of his room because he was scared. My wife was going in to check on him to which I said I got this one, don't worry.

I wanted to talk about his fears so we can acknowledge them and then find a way to disqualify them. So… His fear was a bumping noise he was hearing at his window. So we talked about how there were no monsters outside and that he has nothing to worry about. He didn't believe me so I told him I would go outside and check.

So there I am 10:00pm in my boxers, bearfoot tromping through the bushes looking for monsters and of course, none to be founds, only big spiders. So I walked up to his window and tapped on it to let it know if was only me.

I heard silence then a wimper and then full blown screaming, apparently I scared the crap out of him.

I spent the next half hour reassuring him that I truly was me at the window not a monster, which he didn't buy for an instant. Eventually he fell asleep but I know his is going to wake up tonight at 3:00 and come into my room claiming the monster thing.

Oops

I wouldn't have seen that coming either.

Maybe you could take him with you next time, or have Mommy stay in the room with him, and help him watch you in your search.  Some suggestions to explain the noise: a neighbor's car door, the wind, that garage band down the street, Sully and Mike Wazowski, oh wait, not that one!

I Agree With Jim

I would not have seen that one coming as well.  My daughter once in a while screams out from their room (I have twins) and claims that she has spiders in her bed with her.  I usually get her calmed down pretty easily.  If the room was on the first floor, I am very confident I would have done the same thing you did.  Hope that everything went well through the rest of that night for you.

Funny!

Was it wrong of me to laugh as I read this one?  Just know that you will laugh at this a few years from now...I promise!
