I am trying to start a playgroup for SAHDs in the Fishers, IN area and wanted to get

some suggestions on the best way to start one. Does anyone have any helpful hints or

ways to get one started and people aware of the group?

Thanks

walking around the block

Don;t be afraid to walk up to guys you see out with kids and ask if they're SAHDs.  You might encounter hesitation and responses of "No," "I'm just out of work," "I'm part-time," etc.  I always just try to be friendly and let them know about this site and see if they feel like hanging out with the kids.

Also, if you have indoor play areas or tike gyms, you can spread the word there. I've talked with kid-friendly business owners who are happy to help spread the word to dads they see in their shops.

Hope this helps.

Open it to all dads

I'm a stay at home dad and I have been involved with a couple play groups with my kids for a couple of years, the only SAHD there.  I am currently involved with a group that was do a Dad's Night Out.  Where we get a bunch of dads together at a local play ground and the kids and dads play.

Another idea is to print up some flyers and post them at different kid's places and grocery stores.  Maybe even talk to a newspaper and see about getting a free add or a low cost add saying you are starting a group.

Tons of tips at daddyshome.org!

Jim, check out www.daddyshome.org and look under the "Group Support" tab. There are a lot of great information on how to start, grow and maintain your at-home dad group written by dads who have thriving groups. Also, at the convention this year, we will again have a break-out session on this topic where you can ask questions and talk out solutions that work with other at-home dads. For details on the convention, visit www.athomedadconvention.com. Registration is only $50 right now which is an awesome deal!

Good luck!
