Not a new SAHD but new to forum

Hello, my name is Chris and I live in Fort Mill, SC just over the border from Charlotte NC.  I have a 4 year old son and a 14 month old daughter.  I've actually been a SAHD for about 2 years as I was laid off from the banking industry in 2009 and my wife went back to work.  We tired the day care thing for little while, but it just wasn't working -  plus my wife was getting promotion after promotion so I thought "what am I even working for?"  My son was in daycare and my wife and I contanstly fought over who was going to work late and who was going to take off if he got sick.  So I got

SAHD in NC

Hello all.

I've been a SAHD since October of last year, my son being born at the end of September.

Prior to becoming a SAHD I spent three years teaching English at a rural high school here in North Carolina.  On the same day my wife and I found at the sex of our child, I was informed that I would be laid off.  I had flirted with the idea of leaving my job to be a SAHD prior to this, so really it worked out perfectly.

My wife works as a full-time college professor so I am home all day with our son who is now approaching four months.

Older Dads - 40 & Above

I have 2 grown kids currently in college. Remarried to a woman who never had children - so, here I go again w/ a healthy, bouncing baby bay! I work from home & have a flexible schedule, so I'm the stay-at-home Mr. Mom & loving it. Looking for other dads who might be in a similar situation to share stories, organize play-dates or just vent about the challenges of caring for a baby. Or maybe grab a beer, watch a ballgame & other "grown-up" activities! If you live in or near the Lake Norman/Charlotte area & want to join, let me hear from you.

For Dads that either started late or doing it all over again

Leveling a swingset help

I just finished putting together one of the swing set kits and need to make sure it's level on the piece of ground we want it. I have about a 14 inch change in elevation from one end to another. We are using mulch as a base beneath the playground and my first thought was to build up mulch and use concrete pavers or wall caps beneath corners to suppport the equipment. I wanted to see if there were any other suggestions before I try this since mulch is likely to settle over time and I'd like to avoid having to address the issue every few weeks.

Thanks, Chris

New SAHD, almost two week veteran so far

Hey guys,

I am a new SAHD, got two kids, Owen at 2 and a half and Lily at 2 months.  Due to a job situation that was slowly deteriorating and the opportunity to get insurance through my wife's job we jumped on the perfect opportunity at the perfect time. I'm having fun so far, though it is just as much hard work as I anticipated. Was glad to find a great resource here and will have to see what's going on and pick up all the little tricks and hints I can.
