We are very excited to welcome the American Cleaning Institute® (ACI), a non-profit organization dedicated to home safety, specifically laundry safety, as our Saturday lunch sponsor of the 20th Annual At-Home Dads Convention! They will be a great addition to our conference because they have an important laundry safety messages to share with all parents and caregivers.

As a father, topics such as car seat safety, covering electrical outlets or storing medicine properly are top of mind.

But what about laundry safety?

While often overlooked by parents, the laundry room can be full of potential issues to children. One such item is liquid laundry packets. While these packets are quick and convenient for dads tossing in laundry between diaper changes, they contain highly concentrated detergent that is harmful if swallowed or if kids get it in their eyes. So far this year, there have been more than 7,000 accidental laundry detergent packet exposures in children five and younger. That’s 7,000 too many!!!

Earlier this year, ACI’s consumer research found that 86% of caregivers are improperly storing their laundry packets. Like other household cleaning products, ACI_washer_pods UPDATEDit’s important to ensure laundry packets are kept up high and out of reach of young children, and in their original containers. Prevention can help reduce accidents and ACI urges consumers to take the Pledge to a safe laundry room and routine.

And, by taking the Pledge you are automatically entered to win $2,500 for a laundry room makeover!* What dad couldn’t use that?!

“The KEY Pledge Campaign, ACI’s laundry safety initiative, has many educational materials that echo important safety messages and reminders, including posters, e-cards and videos,” explains Nancy Bock, Senior Vice President for Education with ACI.

Preventable accidents are the #1 cause of death among children and these accidents can happen in an instant. As dads, we need to do everything to keep our kids safe, even when we take an eye off them for just a moment to grab a cup of coffee or use the bathroom. We encourage you to take a few minutes to visit www.keypledge.com to learn more on laundry safety and for simple tips on keeping your little ones safe and out of harm’s way. Nancy Bock will also be highlighting the ways to prevent accidental exposures during lunch on Saturday of the Convention, so be sure to jot down some notes during her presentation!

The National At-Home Dad Network is grateful for ACI’s support of our 20th At-Home Dads Convention, their commitment to educate fathers on home safety and their shared vision with us to help keep children across the country safe.
