Hello Daddyshome members and friends, it’s been awhile since I last posted to the blog.  I have been very busy with the business of Daddyshome and with the many volunteer activities I do in my community and some unfortunate events in my personal life.  Since this is my first post of 2011 I want to wish everyone a belated Happy New Year.   I for one am looking toward 2011 and being done with 2010 with the death of my Mother in August and all the many things that happened in 2010 related to her illness, it’s good to have that behind me.  I look forward to a new and prosperous year in 2011.

The subject of this blog is how you can help Daddyshome grow and fulfill some of our goals through donations to the organization.  One of the things that the board of directors recognized right away was that the members and groups need resources to help them grow and better serve their membership, and for Daddyshome to provide those resources we need to raise some money.  We will be posting our budget that was developed for this year on the website once we finish with a complete revamping of the website, Al Watts will have more on these changes and updates in another posting.  Our goal for this fundraising effort for 2011 is $2,500.

Besides Daddyshome’s continued effort and mission to see that the AHD Convention remains a viable activity each year by using the nonprofit status of the organization to solicit support from companies like Johnson & Johnson, we are branching out to provide other services.  Some of these items we have identified are; Expansion of the convention scholarship for deserving dads, expansion of website, blog and forums, ads to get Daddyshome name out there and generate donations outside of our members, build up a reserve of funds for the convention to make the future planning easier and more efficient, grants to local groups for their expansion as well as providing groups with domains and websites.  All of these initiatives require funding and below are some ways you can help.

How can you give money to Daddyshome?

1).    Donate directly through this link (https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_flow&SESSION=nNUKNA2tVtNfwjLnc0MDsqJCMZqVPR-XP5aW04MF2jK6MJAeu2v_iy8l5jK&dispatch=5885d80a13c0db1f8e263663d3faee8d9384d85353843a619606282818e091d0) or from the donate buttons on the website http://www.daddyshome.org

2).    Donate a portion of your sales on Ebay to Daddyshome by “saving as favorite” Daddyshome here (http://donations.ebay.com/charity/charity.jsp?NP_ID=43119). When sell something, select Daddyshome and choose to donate 10-100% of the sale to Daddyshome. Ebay takes care of getting the money to us and a receipt for you.

3).    Donate to Daddyshome when you buy something on Ebay. Go to http://donations.ebay.com/charity/charity.jsp?NP_ID=43119 and “Save as Favorite.” When you check-out on Ebay, select Daddyshome and donate $1 or more to Daddyshome.

4).    Make purchases on Amazon.com through Daddyshome’s Amazon Store (http://astore.amazon.com/daddyshome-20). There are lots of great books and music for at-home dads there, but you can also access everything on Amazon too. Anything you buy on our store or the rest of Amazon.com through our Amazon store link earns 4% of the sale for Daddyshome!

5).    Become a Full, Voting Member of Daddyshome. Go to the Donate Button on our website (https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_flow&SESSION=nNUKNA2tVtNfwjLnc0MDsqJCMZqVPR-XP5aW04MF2jK6MJAeu2v_iy8l5jK&dispatch=5885d80a13c0db1f8e263663d3faee8d9384d85353843a619606282818e091d0) donate $10 and you become a voting member of Daddyshome (see here for more info on membership benefits – http://www.daddyshome.org/membership_information.php)

6).    Attend the 16th Annual At-Home Dad’s Convention (http://www.athomedadconvention.com/) on October 8, 2011. The convention fee covers the cost of the convention and supports the additional activities of Daddyshome.

As you can see there are many small ways you can help raise funds for the organization.  I know that adding a dollar to each eBay purchase doesn’t sound like a lot, but if you add up all those dollars here and there from all of us that use eBay, this really adds up.  The same goes for making purchases on Amazon.com from the Daddyshome website.  I think I can safely say that all of us buy something from Amazon from time to time, I know I do.  So the next time you are buying a new ebook for your Kindle or a birthday present for a loved one, please think of the organization and buy it through Daddyshome’s Amazon store.  And of course it goes without saying that you can also get family and friends to help out the organization by passing this information onto them and ask them to use these links to help Daddyshome.

Lastly, the easiest way is to attend the AHD Convention every year.  And for those of you that are concerned about the travel to Washington this year, I suggest you sign up for many of the airfare watch services.  I use Airfare Watchdog and here are some samples of flight costs from the west coast;

San Fran to DC-Dulles: round trip – $214

Sacramento to DC-Dulles: round trip – $218

Oakland to DC-Regan National: round trip – $238

Not bad airfares for a coast to coast round trip travel.  There are many other deals out there because every airline comes to DC.  I got great fairs on MidWest, now Frontier, from DC to either KC or Omaha, round trip NONSTOP for under $300, the farther out you book, the cheaper it is.  In 2009 I got a nonstop round trip for $227.  So there are airfare deals out there.

I hope this has given you a number of small ways you can help the organization raise money in 2011 and beyond.  The board of directors and committee chairs are excited about what the organization can do for you, the at home and primary care dads of North America.  Let’s all work together to make 2011 the best year it can be and help us achieve our goal.

Thank you,

Mike Stilwell, President
