San Diego, CA

Evan Wharton

What was your most successful event?

Still haven’t met yet! First one happens tomorrow.

How many events do you suggest per month to keep members interested and active?

I organized a SAHD group in San Antonio for a year before moving to SD — from that experience, I’d say at least once or twice a week.

Do you offer playgroup meet ups? How many times a week do you have playgroup?

Yes, once or twice per week.

How did you get the word out about your group to your community?

Still working on that! Currently using the NAHDN and messaging the dads of gender neutral stay-at-home parent meetups about the website.

Do you offer Dad’s Night Out Events? Where do you go?

I’d like to check out some of the breweries in the area with other SAHDs.

What is the age range of the children in your group?

6 months to 2.5 years old

Do you meet in a common place in your community or at members’ homes?

Parks, zoo, museums, etc.

What advice would you give dads who want to start their own group?

Just do it! Doesn’t take much time or effort and the camaraderie with other dads and kids is well worth it.

What is special or unique about your group that sets you apart from other dad’s groups?

I like to schedule meetups at different locations each week — alternating in proximity to our group members’ locations. Also I use the group as an opportunity to explore San Diego and the family-friendly activities it has to offer.
